Lets give it a unique symbol and call it the division formerly known as SVT.

I agree with this. Or to appease everyone...the division originally known as SVO then changed to SVT but now SVOT

I'd choose a name that included "Ford" in it, as well as "performance vehicles".

FPV.

How about Ford Specialist Teams - FST - implying a range of different teams under one umbrella, each specializing in specific areas of on or off-road performance vehicles? It also implies 'First' as in First On Race Day, or 'Fast' as in Fast Fords.

It should travel well and be popular with the younger set since it includes ST, while reflecting the theme of the most popular Special Vehicle Team name.

Keep the name SVT, ford can move this group under same umbrella as the Mustang group,
then all can get credit for work they have done. Brand is well known, not hard to continue
to brand it world wide, if and when they release these cars outside North America.

To me, SVO sounds better than SVT.
It really doesn't matter. You could call 'em the Dream-Team, for all I care. If the product performs, people will buy.
Why are we concerned with renaming the group that engineers these cars, anyway?
No doubt that the engineering & design groups themselves, could pick the best names. They are the men and women who've worked thousands of man-hours to sell us their vision.
We are merely consumers; right? Are we now feeling entitled to change internal company names?

Party on.

In a way, we do. Whatever Ford chooses will inevitably be used as a marketing piece. If Ford chooses something inexplicable or awkward or uncool-sounding, it may (rationally or not) affect consumer's buying decisions. So to some degree, consumers will be voting with their dollars as to whether they like the name or not.

I'm very partial to SVT, but not totally against a re branding of the special vehicle team at ford. Just need to keep it simple.

I always like SVO - just rolls off the tongue better than the others.

Marginally related, here's a video review of the '84 SVO Mustang:
