My message to Ford:
Hi Ford Australia, I have an Ecoboost Mustang on order and would like to install a stainless exhaust system from the end of the OEM downpipe back to the tailpipes. I've spoken to the technicians at my Ford dealer and they don't believe a non OEM exhaust system would alter the operating parameters of the engine as long as the stock downpipe was in place. They recommended contacting Ford Australia to confirm this as my concern is that I do not breach the warranty conditions. I'm aware that the non OEM exhaust system would not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
Reply from Ford:
We would always suggest to proceed with caution with any non-genuine parts in our vehicles, as we haven’t tested for compatibility or durability. You are right we will continue to honor the warranty supplied on your vehicle as this covers manufacturing defects only. Hope this helps. Thanks FordService^CZ
Careful how you interpret what Ford have said there.sweet, looks like it wont void my warrenty. cheers
IMO this is a very cheeky way of saying if something OEM breaks it's covered, and if it's it's not OEM then it's not covered, without further elaboration.
It's very vague when it comes to "non-OEM parts leading to the failure of OEM parts".
I.e. they could have had the same response if you had asked if a supercharger is ok.
They'll continue to honour the warranty provided it's a problem of theirs. For example, superchargers breaking driveshafts is not a problem of theirs.
It's always a grey area with this, if you're going to mod things prepare to be hassled if something goes wrong, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
