Due to a new job, where I'll be traveling a lot and working from home when not on the road, I think I'm gonna sell my 18 GT premium PP1.

It's in pretty good condition except one, what I would call, small dent in left rear above the tail light. Also has paint chip associated with it.

Question is, is it worth paying to get it fixed prior to starting the process of selling it? I might just take to CarMax or another dealer but not completely against private seller. To me, if I'm paying 500 (no idea what this will cost but 500 seems bottom price I'd think) and I get 1000 more, not really worth the net of 500 bucks. But if this dent would cost me a couple or few grand in value then I'll definitely fix it.

What do y'all think?

I'd leave it be, to fix that correctly, isn't going to be 500.00
Only way that gets fixed for 500 bones is by a bondo bandit .
Even if the dent cost the value of the car 1000.00, use prices are high now, that it be a wash of what you'd have gotten in 2019 for it without a dent.

My understanding is that the repair will almost always cost more than the hit on selling price. This doesn’t apply if you know somebody or can do some work yourself (like removing the offending panel an hand carrying it to a shop? Edit, that’s generic advice. I don’t think it applies to your dent).
However, if your car is accident free it might be worth it to get it fixed so it meets buyer expectations. Also, if selling privately it might be worth it. I think the above advice is because a dealer has much lower repair costs than you have access to.

Believe it or not PDR will get 90%of that out. However, it won't solve the issue of the paint. I would let the new owner deal with it.

Thanks all. I was leaning towards leaving it but wasn't sure if I was missing some aspect

I figured 500 was really low but was just kinda using numbers to make an example

Though I do have a friend of a friend who will prob do it for fair price. I think I'll leave it be though

Car is accident free. This was just a lack of awareness and sometimes stuff happens quick

I'd leave it be. It isn't a huge dent and as long as you can back it up with a decent explanation and proof of no accident (maintenance history, CarFax all add in value).

Just be honest and expect someone to haggle a little over the price. I personally wouldn't go with a trade-in/CarMax because they're likely to exaggerate the damage. A private buyer is far more likely to accept that little dent.

I would do a paintless dent repair.
They can be done for less than $200.00.
Private sale will be scared off by that damage. Silver Is a color hard to match. It will take alot of blending.

I would bet you would take a $2-3k hit on a Carvana or Vroom offer for that damage. No dealer wants a damaged car on their lot.

Unless dent-less can perform some sort of magic, that is beyond dent-less repair. The metal is creased and there is a big flake of paint gone.

Paint alone gonna cost $200.

An excellent PDR shop can get that dent 98% back to normal. Where it gets difficult is at the panel crease, sometimes a PDR shop will tell you up front if they can or can't get the complete dent out due to either panel edges OR obstructions behind the panel.

PDR shops won't do anything with paint work at all, but some work closely with body shops and couid give you a good recommendation.

One thing is true it's accessible from inside the trunk. Go ask a pro it might not be all that bad.

Get an estimate or two from some mom and pop body shops and please let us know what they say. I bet you can get that done for about 500-750 and it will look decent enough that Carvana won't even notice.

Appreciate everyone's input on the matter.

I will get a quote from a shop and one from pdr. Even if it's only 90% better that's still a lot better
