Winter tire follow up

After doing my own research and going out on a limb, I purchased 255/40R19 Yokohama Iceguard tires and had the local dealer mount them for a total cost of $924.

Tires are sloppy above 80mph, but otherwise the tire noise is no different than the P-Zeroes. I've also added 300lbs of sand in the trunk and secured it over the rear axle line.

The issues possibly mentioned by tire rack regarding the traction control has been unfounded. I am not driving the car hard due to the soft rubber compound of the winter tire, but it looks like they were off base.

Overall, this is a nice cost-effective solution that saved me close to $450 vs. staggered blizzaks or winter sottozeroes.

Hopefully this information is helpful for anyone else who has a winter tire concern or question.

P.S. Alas, the dealership scratched both of my rear wheels while mounting the tires and used a black sharpie to try and cover it up. Can't win all the time...

300 lbs of sand!? Your going to under steer like a mad man with that beach in the trunk. No mustang I have owned has needed more than a full tank of gas to hold the ass down in winter. You do that to one wheel wonder pickup trucks with a 70/30 split, you don't do that on a car with a 53/47 split.

Any one have winters on a gt with performance package? I'm wondering if going down from 275/40r19 to 255/40r19 for the rear tires will make the offset look funny on the car.

Your offset won't change, as offset is a measurement of the wheel, not tire.

I'd do a 245/45/19 all around, as it more closely matches the rear diameter and is a bit narrower.

That's what I'm ordering soon.

i wound up going with the dunlop wintermaxxes...cheapos too. So far so good. On ice/snow they have done well...not sure how I like them at 75/80mph but I won't be hitting that too often with the weather we have coming.

Anyone know the largest tire DIAMETER that would fit in our wheel wells? I really want to get 255/55r19 or at least 255/50r19
Depends on if you plan on hitting any bumps!
Why not just go with the stock size if you want a 50 profile? 235/50r18?

Lol, I want to stick with the same rims. Would take me over 4 years to break even if I bought 4 new wheels at $150/ea instead of paying $120/yr to mount and balance tires twice each year.

I also just installed LM32s, but on my stock PP wheels. I will report back when there's snow on the ground but so far I'm pleased with the dry weather traction and road noise.

Yep even in dry weather and 50 degrees out on long island my stock Pirellis were slipping all over the place. These are pretty solid on the other hand.
