Winter driving

Well I finally got the first real test for my sotozero 3's last night. I went to the movies without knowing an ice storm was on it's way in. Came out of the movies and everything was a straight layer of ice, it was hard to even get the door open. Ended up having to drive about 7 miles home in it. The tires did really well, only broke traction a few times being careful on the throttle in snow mode. Not the greatest pic but it's what I got.https://imgur.com/a/Ie6xN

Ya I got it bad here today also,we are only going to have a HIGH of 86* and a low of 66* tonight,I think I will stay home. LOL.

We got 4-5" last night. The car handled really well driving home from the dealership. I had two 70lb sandbags and a 40lb box of cat litter in the trunk and used snow mode. Started from each stop in 2nd gear.
I noticed that even in 2nd gear you can still kick out the rear end if you're starting on an incline or let the clutch engage higher than 1500rpm or so.
The particular area where my neighborhood is will often get several more inches than anyone else and it doesn't get plowed. I think I'll get some chains for when we've got 8" on my street but the main streets are cleared.
Overall, the Sottozero 3 tire works really well. Just drive slow and take it easy when accelerating from a stop.
I got behind a V6 Challenger (I looked but couldn't see an R/T or SRT badge) who was driving much faster than me. Must be nice to have no torque at 6000ft! Or maybe he had studless snow tires on....

I'm up here in Broomfield and we got about 4-5 as well. I have the blizzacks on mine and took it out this morning. Actually performed really well, a lot better then I was expecting. Some guy pulled up next to me in a f250 and gave me a thumbs up and asked how it did in the snow. I replied suprisingly well. Lol. I have a base model so I don't have the drive modes but if you drive carefully and not like an idiot these cars should be fine. Oh and I have no extra weight in the trunk

I was too busy focusing on driving, but I'm sure some of the SUV's and trucks passing me were eyeballing me like "WTF is he crazy??"

I probably don't need the weight in the trunk, but better safe than sorry. The sandbags only cost me $9 and we have a cat, so we had litter.

I'm just glad we can drive these cars in the snow. My wife wouldn't let me have a daily driver AND a Mustang. So this is big win for me.

I replaced a 2015 diesel Jetta TDI with this Mustang. I drove up to Longmont yesterday in the Jetta. Holy crap, that car has NO power, lol.

I just have to reiterate how good this car is with blizzaks on. I just ran some errands in the current storm passing through Chicago, that's put about 2 inches down. The back roads were totally free of cars and it was awesome to feel out the limits. Forward grip is frankly insane. Drift on command, of course, but I could easily go faster than the posted speed limit without a hint of slip. If this were the really wet, heavy snow it'd be a little more challenging.

We just got a hint of winter here in PA yesterday and I have to re-reiterate the Blizzak statement.
We have a layer of ice with snow on top in a lot of areas and even then the car is completely in control. I even took it to the CDL Testing Lot down the road to see what to expect from the car in snow...it's amazing. With TCS on I simply couldn't get the back loose, and I was flooring it and making sudden and aggressive turns (was driving circles around a pole at one point with the pedal floored and TCS wouldn't let the back slip ). I could notice some slide at points if I hit slush, but the car refused to let it be out-of-control.
It'll be fun to try that again when we get a bigger layer of snow.

Hakkapellitta 8's work very well in slush and ice. I drove 200+ miles in this. Planted and stable. Sold the car and the tires and put on some studded iPikes but they don't match the Nokian!

Out on my Xi3 todays, 2-3" packed with a layer of ice under that....not a single problem getting around, no weight in trunk, start in 2d gear, all nannies "on".

1st winter with my 16 GT. With the snow/wet setting and blizzack WS80's it moved and stopped like any other car/SUV I've owned.
I originally went with 200 lbs of cat litter and removed it. I found that the rear would swing more with the momentum of the turn and surprisingly for me it more manageable without the extra Weight. Drive 2x for more than 2 hours each time in heavy snow storm. Shut my fellow co-workers up for good showing up to work on time when others said the roads were treacherous.
