Not S550 but my wife's 14 Fusion with basically the same Soundscreeen windshield did the same thing. I've gone my whole life never having this happen until then.

I actually just noticed yesterday how my windshield has been accumulating a lot of chips in it. It's by far the weakest windshield I've ever had on a car.

I'll have to look at that thread too.

My taurus was the same way. Can easily see the chips in the window but one day a chip decided to turn into a crack and i had to get it replaced. already on this windshield i can see chips, pretty deep too.

I noticed last week mine is cracking in the center, straight up and down.

i caught a rock dead smack in the middle the day i bought mine. Luckily it only chipped it, but was right back at the dealership the next day to get it filled.

I dont even remember hearing that ominous "slam!" sound that comes after a sizable rock hits your windshield so it could have only been a pebble or something else.

Symptomatic of our degrading roads. I went through 4 windshields in three years on my Impala when I had a long highway commute. One impact was so bad it blew glass chips onto the dash. I've taken two impacts on my S550 but they didn't leave much of a mark.

wife's GT got cracked not even 45 minutes owning it by a rock and she said it didn't even hit hard. luckily, it is only about 3/4" and not in view

If this was a big impact I would understand and would not have even posted. I have a rock chip in my accord that hit so hard it sounded like a shotgun was fired inside my car. This issue is all that was heard was a small ping of the glass breaking and I had to get out and inspect the crack before I could even find the "impact" mark, which once again was not even big enough to put a pen tip into.

Worst place to hit, right on the edge. My Chrysler 300C went the same way. Minor hit but a half inch from the edge, crack worked it's way straight across. Much bigger hit right in the middle never cracked.

I was on the highway going about 70-75, as I merged to the left lane a quarter sized object hit my windshield. Looked very solid and heavy. This was over two months ago, and it hasn't cracked completely. I'll post a pic in a bit.

I had a nice rock at interstate speeds hit my windshield. Too scared to look. How could insurance or anyone say that a rock hitting your windshield is the driver's fault?

I don't think there is any such thing as a "weak windshield" The glass formulas all must meet a federal standard from the glass maker. I think this is just coincidence really. Even 10 people isn't a massive issue with 75,000 cars out there or whatever the current number is.
