Some would say those that drive IC engines have conformed. Electric cars are for the independent and certainly not mainstream. Though I will say I think you don’t have to have a Prius mindset to drive electric. You can also go fast!!!! :headbang:

I guess the more accurate statement is that they see the writing on the wall and they are not crazy about it...
You have mistaken what I was writing about I was writing about staying true to ones self and ones beliefs. As for electric cars no I don't want one, now if they come up with a green battery and double the range of these cars then yes I would consider one.

My bad. Of course you are right.

Subterfuge on my part as I was actually replying to Norm without being “too” confrontational. Norm is always polite. Thinks before he posts. And he signs every post with his name like he’s writing a letter. He’s the kind of guy you would like to have a beer with. So I did it that way...

It's my thinking that doesn't always line up with mainstream even when my choice to stay with the ICE might be seen as conforming. It's frequently independent of (and sometimes flat-out contrary to) common enthusiast attitudes and thought processes as well.

Intellectually, I know electrics can be fast. Even damn fast. But that's not enough, nor is having the EV acceleration levels already attained anywhere near top priority. Sure, I could use more power than is in any of the cars I now own, but I don't have to have it to fully enjoy driving. I've driven cars with considerably more power on tap, and driven them . . . well, let's call it "helmet-required hard", so I'm not just guessing. Faster for its own sake just isn't worth it to me to have to sacrifice anything on the driver involvement side of the ledger to get.

And what mods can you do to a electric car seat covers, vent visors window film. Part of the fun in owning a car is making it your own.

Trust me the aftermarket will have all sorts of mods for your electric Mustang. These cars are far more electronically customizable than you think. As for the range we are up to over 600 miles.

I am far more interested in the Semis for Linehaul. Currently the electric version by Tesla goes only 500-600 miles. We need much greater range as these would be driverless between one city and another. Then there is the nightmare of wireless identification of trailers and the gps tracking of those. You guys have no idea. I blame Amazon.

That Tesla in my photos has the latest version of autopilot (in addition to the carbon fibre wheels) It would be fun to see two driverless Mustangs meet each other at a stoplight and have an impromptu street race from the lights. Then I will have seen everything!

I hear were you're coming from but I want to drive my car NOT ride in it. If a person just wants to ride down the road take a bus.

You mean on like - a driverless bus? :D

Edit: Here’s an ad for the driverless Mustang - Don’t feel the excitement! But the heated and cooled seats finally work!

First it will be fully autonomous cars...

Next will be replacing women with rubber blowup dolls...

Well, let’s think about that...

And in case anyone was wondering about the tie in betweeen an electric Tesla Semi and the Mustang? The Tesla Semi is probably faster than a 2018 Ecoboost as Tesla always downplays the real performance!

Just let that sink in; and then you will know why the Mustang has to go hybrid and then electric to survive.

Musk is long on promises and short on delivery the only thing he cares about is lining his pockets. Don't get me wrong I'd like to see Tesla succeed but Musk is a arrogant ass.

I can see that appealing primarily to those whose interest already lies in the modified show car categories. Which is a niche little if any bigger than that of the road course enthusiasts.

This would be something I might follow out of somewhat more than idle curiosity. My son drives an 18-wheel box most everywhere except CA, and my son-in-law drives a flatbed regionally.

I probably get a glimpse at that from time to time, as I subscribe to Telematics Talk (an occasionally emailed newsletter for those who probably haven't heard of it before).

Well the saviour of the IC engine may well be electric rigs, 5 tons and smaller commercial vehicles. Converting these to electric would cut green house gasses by 30 percent and not impact the general population. In Canada early hybrid vehicles were used by companies that were given tax incentives. This worked and should be the model for electric trucks. All the arguments about “soul”, rowing gears and such don’t apply to commercial vehicles. Only a small amount of commercial trucking concerns converting to electric would have the fastest and most immediate effect on cutting green house gasses. The only caveat is the payload capacity but that is improving. But this measure of reduction in green house gasses is the easiest way I can see in the western world. Ironically I suppose it may give the Mustang a few more years with the V8 if employed.

I have no problem with electric vehicles as long as there are no kickbacks or government funding/corruption involved. Let the market work. If the electric vehicles are better, they will take over. If not...

I'd be surprised if the Tesla Semi actually gets sold, based on their current issues.

Mainstream EV commercial trucks are going to be a reality soon, but in the vocational & municipal markets WAY before over-the-road (linehaul) tractors. I laughed my butt off when the Tesla was announced, and for so many reasons that are agreed-upon if you know much about the commercial truck industry.
