whos tracking their R?

Would love to see finished pictures of harness and bar and any other track prep pictures.
I'm stuck on doing expel wrap or just repainting down the road. $4000 for front clip and rockers with Quartz but the rear quarter gets hit pretty good and then ur up to $5000!!

Heading over to Tag Motorsports to get a nail out of my tire and get their input on the best way to mount them (have the option of 4 or 6 points). I'll take some pictures when I get them installed. Also going to be getting a quote on HRE R101s ... but I have a feeling they are going to be so expensive that I won't feel as bad about keeping the carbons on for street use.

I am tracking my R. If the GT350R experiences a value boom like the 2005 Ford GT then some pristine garage queens will carry a premium. But that's a big "if", and it's not as though a tracked R is suddenly worthless.

I will drive my 17R on the street for break in only, then it will be stored at the track. My logic is that I can track it for 5 years or so and, assuming I keep the shiny side up, can likely sell it for most of what I paid for it. Can't say that about my other cars. Low miles, only driven on sunny weekends...

I am tracking mine. Are any of you running a safety harness w/o a rollbar? If so, where are you mounting the back straps?

No R for me (yet) but for sure most R owners are tucking them away as garage ornaments and will never ever see the track or rain or even a rally. A few here have tracked theirs (and extra kudos to them) so I'm sure they will post sooner or later.

And IMHO tracking these cars is what it's meant to be used for. It doesn't mean you will flog it every single weekend... but on occasion, there's nothing wrong with doing it at all. I know some will disagree but hey there's more fun in actually driving it than just letting it sit for pics or window dressing. My opinion... btw I'ved tracked my 350 a few times (6 total events to date) and it still looks great.

My point is you can still track a car like an R and protect it well (e.g. PPF as you're planning and even temporary masking further helps). Here's one proof of a friend's R who's clearly having real fun on the track with his... this is a rare one too. No A/C... base R. Well maintained and PPF on his... so it does help.

That Boss 302S looks like a blast to drive on the track . It's not even legal to drive on the street. Ever get to drive one of those ? I keep seeing them listed for sale here and there. That 2000 R is cool as hell also. That's some real American iron along with the 350 R . Thanks.

you have to do a school first, they have in the spring, whats cool is normally
they are 2 day event, so learn first day with instructor, presuming you pass.
Next day you can run.
I and anyone who has done can tell you its a blast

Sounds like a great weekend to me! I believe there must be a track in New Brunswick as well; the XPEL guy who did my car owns a Cayman GT4, and tracks it regularly, got to see it when I was there. Would love to drive both tracks

It is really interesting to hear some of you that actually get angry thinking about people who don't track their R models.

Did you ever consider than maybe some of us have been there and done that therefore just enjoying these R models on the street might be enjoyment enough for some of us older Mustang enthusiasts?

It was pretty much 47 years ago this month that I was already drag racing my '67 Mercury Cougar along with my cousin's '69 GTO Judge. I suggest that many of you were not even thought of back in the late 60's.

Once the 80's came I then bought an '83 Mustang GT and immediately tore out the stock suspension and replaced it with the best Rancho Suspension Kit that I could buy at the time after which time I went auto crossing for a number of years. Stock Camaro's and Corvette's did not pose much of a challenge with this Rancho setup.

Later on in the '80's I bought a brand new '86 Dodge Omni GLH and also raced an '87 Mustang LX 5.0 notchback at the same time. Yokohama tires on the GLH and was sponsored by Goodyear with shaved tires for the Mustang. I made a lot of great new friends and learned a lot from some of the senior drivers in our car club.

Unfortunately during the late 80's I developed an inner ear condition that really had a terrible effect on the way I felt after a number of hot laps after which time I told myself that even though I loved the competition and the excitement of these great cars that the side effects of feeling ill was not worth the price of admission.

Do I wish that I could be on the track regularly with my R models along with many of you youngsters and even older enthusiasts, absolutely but aside from putting in a few laps in here and there it just isn't going to happen.

Next time you see some of us older enthusiasts out driving our R models on the street keep in mind that maybe some of us were tracking our cars before some of you were even born and that in most cases most would like to be out there with you!

Before you judge some of us older enthusiasts ( and even younger enthusiasts) as to how why we only drive our R models on the street I suggest that you might ask a few questions before you make judgment.

Lastly, it is great to hear so many Mustang enthusiasts actually exploring the capabilities of these great cars on the track where they need to be and not on the street as many did back in my day.

Don't have an R, but I do have a track pack....work has been so busy for me to get it on track but planning to this year at some point.

One very cool think I like about these cars, they are easy enough to drive on the street, and reliable enough to push on track and still drive it home.



My boss was driving and racing before I was born and can still wheel a car around a track with the best of them. Like riding a bike, you never forget ;)

It has been known to draw a little attention! I got to check out your stang at TAG. Looking and sounding real mean brother! I'm going to need a ride in that beast!

No Track in NB anymore as far as I know.
There is a GT4 that goes to AMP. ( red)
Next closest road course is Louden NH or Mont Tremblant QC.

I do at least 1 track day monthly although pretty much with my Focus RS now... and I see many novices or infrequent track guys young & old take their prized possessions to the track. Even fellows with disabilities and handicap issues... it doesn't deter nor stop them. They have fun at their own pace. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I enjoy chatting with them in the pits or paddock too... many cool folks out there just looking to have a safe environment to have fun. Good camaraderie....

My point is it is NOT a race... it's a High-Performance Driving Education (aka HPDE). So if you can "drive spirited" on the open roads or countryside or hills/valleys, then you can drive at nearly any track nationwide. People think race track driving... like on TV. But it's not even close to that.

Unless you're non-ambulatory or need special driving apparatus in your car, then I really don't think there's a good excuse for 99% out there. Like [MENTION=11655]ohtobbad[/MENTION] stated, "if you have not tracked your car, you are really missing what these cars can do" The rest (mostly) are just excuses....
