I have a 2017 mustang gt 45k miles with a freshly new Gen 5 Whipple stage 1 CA compliant Whipple tune. It’s having random misfires… the plugs are new and have been gapped to Whipple spec .028 and I did several crank relearns with no hope. I even changed my battery since It was 5 years since new and possibly going out. I’m not sure what it can be… I sent a data log to Whipple and said it was good. 🧐

Post your data log here. I'm sure someone can give you a second opinion. But in the meantime I'd pull all the spark plugs, re check the gap and see if they have deformed in any manner. What plugs are you running as well

I rechecked the plugs and no signs of any deformities or damage. The gaps are .028 and they are Denso iridium plugs that Whipple provided for the kit.

Honestly. I would install NGK 6510’s at .025”. While they are out, do a compression check and bore scope each cylinder and look for any signs of potential ringland failure.

This. The denso plugs are trash. The ringland failure is unfortunately common with cars that have misfires.

When's the misfire popping up? Part throttle or wot? Specific rpm range? Should be getting flashing check engine light before code sets. Any cylinders showing up besides just random?

Are your plugs coming out wet or otherwise darker in color? Also like grimreaper asks, what codes are popping. When i had an issue of misfires with my whipple it ended up being oil in my intake manifold made its way onto my plugs and was running foul. My solve was getting the driver side catch can.

why install NGKs when Whipple sent me Densos for my kit. Shouldn’t they run good as well? And no I don’t have any signs of ringlabd failure. The motor was doing great before the install.

why are they trash if they provided them to me in the kit? If that’s so then Whipple wouldn’t have provided it to customers and would be doing refunds or exchanges.

Random misfire P0300 only. It happens very random. Could be part throttle or wot. Any rpm.. no other code.

As a long time whipple owner their reputation for great service is way overblown. Whipple sells the ngk 5610 as the replacement

update:
I noticed that my battery was going out so I replaced it because it wouldn’t start after having auxiliary on for about 5 min. After.. I thought that maybe the tune was not installed properly due to the battery being bad. So now with the new battery i reinstalled the tune yesterday morning and started to beat it up on the freeways. No misfire codes so far…

but now I’m convinced that I have a bad water pump… 230cht with 50° ambient air… and smells like coolant in the hood
