The whipple logs that I have seen, that tune is amazing. There are times that I wish I would have went that route.
I agree. I originally thought that since Whipple was putting out the tune, that it would be extremely conservative. Makes sense since it is a liability to them. That is DEFINITELY not the case. If I were in the market and buying a Whipple right now, I would use there cal and never look back.

if you don't have a oil separator get one... they work. When oil vapors get sucked into the blower and mix with air/fuel the octane quality goes down hill and causes knock.

I completely agree! I have seen a log of logs from canned tunes and they were all extremely conservative. I thought that it would be the same with Whipple's calibration. But, I was wrong. They really did a ton of testing and their cal shows it. If I could do it again, I would have saved a lot of money and went with Whipple's cal.

Does anyone have any technical backgrounds that can help me understand if positive knock activity is of concern? Is this caused by the Whipple tune or is there something up with my car?

I agree that a Oil Sep is a MUST! I have the JLT Oil Separator specifically for Whipple. After 1500 miles, the catch can was filled up almost half way.

The tune is doing its job. Have you tried VP octinuman the booster? Im guessing poor fuel quality

Yea your in California so the fuel is junk. Try vp octanium. Buy it online in bulk to save
Stay away from octanium....it is NOT recommended to run octanium with unleaded gas

That's interesting. Dustin from Whipple recommends it.. They tested that VS Torco with great results especially in California

Yeah man I thinking about something else. I had a bottle left over and just checked it. Only thing is it has MMT so after prolonged used it will foul the o2 sensors and not recommended with cats.

Octanium ………

- Reduces detontation and pre-ignition in all gasoline powered vehicles resulting in increased horsepower and torque and consistent engine performance. Results confirmed by independent laboratory testing.
- Race fuel concentrate – provides ordinary unleaded gasoline with the properties of a racing fuel.
- Safe for oxygen sensors and catalytic converters.
- Reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions.
- Prevents stalling, hesitation, knocking and pinging in all gasoline powered vehicles.
- Cleans injectors, combustion chambers and prevents valve sticking.
- Improve’s quality of today’s oxygenated fuel and corrects lean conditions caused by ethanol blends.

Yeah, I saw that about the o2s and cats on their website.

I'm actually going to test octanium and torco in 93 oct with my octane tester. I what to see how much they really raise the octane.

22* on 93 octane?! Bye bye motor lol
It's been tested there and no, not bye bye. That's what the knock system does, adapts to what engine can handle. Many things change from what people "think" since we spent thousands of hours at wot with knock specialist, cam specialist, torque control specialist. We have modified injection angle, cam position, spark per cylinder, injection per cylinder. The motors all hold together but it's not luck, it's engineering.
