While at the dealership yesterday, I was admiring the Mustang on display, as you do. I watched a young boy drag his father over to look at the Mustang and he was telling his father that this should be mummy new car, the father has a look round the car and reads the spec on it, tells his son that it's not practical for the school run along with a few other reasons, he decides to come over and have a chat, he promptly tells me you know what's wrong with the car and you have to ask what, I am thinking he probably thinks it's to big, does not like the colour or something like that, but he says

It's a Ford, which was no surprise to me seeing how we where in a Ford dealership, he goes on to explain that it's not a BMW M3

I replied that a M3 is twice the price of a Mustang

but he said it's a Ford

To which I replied it's the first right hand drive Mustang to be sold in the UK

But it's a Ford, I tried a few more times but each time he would come back with but it's a Ford, after a while he decides to join his wife and look at buying a fiesta, felt like going over and telling him you what was wrong with the fiesta is it's a Ford and not a BMW Mini but thought better of it

But at least I now know what's wrong with Mustang IT'S A FORD

Oh well, I am sure he feels he has done the right thing. And I wonder if his son was thinking "but its a Ford" as he looked back longingly as they left the showroom.....doubt it!

The Mustang is a Ford?! Why has this only just come to light now? I feel thoroughly cheated. First we find out that car manufacturers published economy figures aren't necessarily achievable in the real world, now this!

It's disgusting. I shall cancel my order immediately, save up for another 5 years then go out and buy an M4 with a V6 turbo and no soul. If they still do the V6 in 5 years time that is - will probably be a 3 cylinder by then.

.........and when they buy the Fiesta he'll drive it one day. He'll realise it's a brilliant handling well put together fun and practical car. Maybe he'll think "if only Ford made a bigger, M3/M4A/A5 sized version".

Maybe he would have felt better knowing there are no Ford badges on the car.....

Don't forget, there's that extreme feeling of exclusivity that comes with driving a BMW, especially a 118 diesel.

Did you not point out to the poor misinformed soul, that:

1. His son would not be embarrassed by his dad on the 'school run'

2. With what you can save buying a Mustang over an M3, he could buy 3 or 4 Fiestas ;)

I did point out if he had this on the school run his son would become quite popular as all the kids would want a ride home in it, but that seemed to fall on deaf ears

Well it doesn't surprise me, stick to your BMW, he obviously drives the car that to me put BMW drivers in a league of their own. Not a good league !
Just my opinion of course :)

I like BMWs. I may have mentioned this before. Some of the drivers are knobs however.

You'd really need to ask the people that comment on it because curiously they've never seen another make of car miss an indication, run a red light or tailgate someone. I worry more about them because they miss so much of what's happening on the road around them whilst obsessing about the driving habits of German car owners ;)
Speaking personally, i'd admit to not being perfect however I indicate coming out of my workplace car park and indeed everywhere else other than when something more important requires the use of my left hand.
There's a definite and unjustified superiority complex amongst some drivers of "prestige" marques but I've driven them purely because in my experience they are better built. Had a Vectra which decomposed the instant it turned 5 years old. My E92 is nearly 8 and has little to no issues.
I'll finish my mini-rant by giving a special mention to the driver of the Civic Type S who for some reason thought it was appropriate to accelerate as hard as space would allow in Morrison's car park yesterday. These are the people we really need to worry about. Mother's with kids, pushchairs and a wanabe Lewis Hamilton's dad do not mix well.
