Im not sure about the ethanol, but in terms of the engine, the EB was designed to run on 87, just as the V6 and V8 were. They are tested with 87 with the EPA MPG tests. So your saying that 87 is not really worth it putting in EB. Ok I get that but the question is, in the long run would you gain more mpg in 91 with no ethanol or 93/94 with up to 10% ethanol? Any mechanical advantages or disadvantages when putting one or the other?
So those MPG #s you see on the sticker are done with 87 octane.
The 93 octane gives the EB the performance boost to pull the 310 hp. As far as I know, there is no real MPG gain running higher octane, and if there is, it's probably negligible. Otherwise Ford would test with that to get it's MPG #s up.
Now the EB can't pull its 310 HP without the 93 octane. At that point, get a V6 at least that's what I would do.
When you run the #s and other things, the EB is just not that amazing. I think if it was more in the 350-360 HP range, you'd have something here.
