Since these are “spares“ I often have time on my side to “piece things “ together and come across some great deals in the process
My builder never feels under any time pressure either and I understand when my builds are not “priority “ or he take as long as he needs . LOL

I always prefer to have a “spare “long block on hand for a running motor .
In the event it is is needed , less down time and labor $ swapping a long block than a SB .

I also trust my engine builder(s)who does nothing else , more than anyone else to assemble right . if the parts are available the labor is not that much more to assemble the long block .
Less cooks the better .

Cost difference would depend on which heads and additional work . I have not had any of my heads ported but usually will upgrade the springs especially with used heads . Typically with non GT 350 heads(including /cams /lifters /rollers /solenoids) , the long block (with cam and front cover ) will add about $3500 to the cost of the build

I do have a predator /5.2 SB build that is “undesignated” especially since it can be used as replacement for either Gen 3 or Gen 2 motor .
I do have Gen 2 heads/VCT and everything else needed to make it a long block .

I also plan to sleeve and build my wounded Gen 3 SB but will leave it also “undesignated” for the same reason (also have Gen 2 heads for a long block if needed )

I think in the event I don’t need either and want to sell them as a “complete” long block it may be better for a potential buyer to see for sure what they are getting. .
