My 2016 GT premium has factory 20" with summer tires. They look great, they are 3 days old but I need to change them ASAP, I'm not skilled enough yet to work with summer tires on 20"s in Seattle rainy weather.

I guess I'll put them for sale on here or something as they are basically as new, but what are your thoughts on a replace wheel and tire package for the rain frequency here in the Pacific North West?

Context: I'm coming from a subie so total different experience, no where near the straight line performance, but way more wet weather confidence.

It's warm enough now with highs regularly in the 50s or better that even summer tires should be fine, provided you take it easy on cool mornings. For the winter though I did stick a set of Continental DWS06 on my factory PP wheels as they're great in the cold and rainy weather we tend to have during the winter.

Those tire are fine in the rain. They are NOT fine if the temp is below 45 degrees. Ad water to sub 45 degrees, and yes, you have traction issues.

You should be able to ride it out till spring gets warmer.

I slid out of an exit this afternoon in snow/wet mode at what i thought was an appropriate normal speed, not in anyway trying to gun it, that was all it took for me to decide, if I'm gonna do this my wife is gonna do far worse. Also I kinda want more tire choice at a lower price, I'm not talking budget tires, Id like to feel more comfortable wearing through sets at recreational events and replacing them frequently, Im used to 800-900 a set. Those dws's sound great but it seems that's pretty much the only option right? And they are around $1200 a set.

What's typical wear like on these things? Am I likely to be replacing full sets of tires or just the rears frequently?

Ok you have convinced me to not be a tight arse and I'm just gonna buy a set of dws06's.

Can't get those in 265/35r20s

I'm more then happy to help out, there are a lot of great summer tires that will do great on wet conditions as well
Anywhere more competitive priced than Tirerack on these dws06's?

We would not take delivery of our new Mustang without the Summer tires removed and Conti DWS 06's mounted/balanced.

Without a doubt, the single best tire my wife and I have mounted on a Mustang to date for daily driving and weekend spirited fun...

Our dealership did a little better than the TireTrack pricing =] Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent.

Also running dws06 here in seattle, did slid out of nowhere once on a 10 mph turn without flooring much a while ago back in November-December. So far so satisfied though! And should be better since it is warmer here.

I just got my continental dsw's installed last night. I up sized to 275/35-20. Tires at this size are actually cheaper then 265's.

So far so good. Just need to get them scuffed in. They are a little creasy right now.

Thanks for the help, qq are you saying you slid on the dws06's at 10mph? I guess Nov-Dec is really cold.

I noticed the 275's are cheaper too, why is that? Is there any downside to getting the 275's over 265's? I've always just replaced like for like and not gotten into the science of tire sizes for fear of messing up my ride/traction/grip

265/35-20 may be lower volume special order.

The 275's look better on the car.

pros = more meat on the ground, rim is slightly skinnier then tread meaning tore carcass provides rim protection against scuffs

cons = taller tire than stock by 1.2 %, you will be going 65mph but speedo will say 64mph, taller tire may feel a little looser
