I typically don't believe in these sorts of dealer "add-ons" but have an R with the carbon fiber wheels and the optional coverage does have me somewhat intrigued due to the cost of the carbon wheels plus the unknown of not knowing how they will perform on the street/track. Below is a description of the coverage.

The cost is ~$1000 for 3 years of coverage however I have never had this type of policy and nor have I filed a claim. Anyone have experience? Is this priced reasonably well? Is this a waste of money? Any input is appreciated.

I got it for free when I bought mine(price was $600) and have already had 1 tire replaces, no questions asked. It doesn't cover curb rash or anything like that but if your wheel cracks from a pothole or something it's covered. I'm pretty sure the R wheels are excluded though. I could be wrong.

I had my wheel damaged (small scrape) from dealer car lift second day I had it. Just got the new wheel (took months) after dealer bought me a new one. Having it changed out on Thursday. It was almost $5000 the dealer said. I didn't know we could get coverage but I think it's worth it because just a slight nick ruins the carbon fiber. Mine is just a scrape but you can see the fiber sticking out which will befits a issue on the track.

I thought that I remember reading that cosmetic repairs were like doing body work. Essentially, fill, sand and repaint. Obviously, structural issues are much different.

Hmm, interesting and good to know. I thought each wheel was ~$2500 a piece but at $5000 it makes good sense to purchase the plan!

I sell this in the business officd at my Ford Dealership in Northern Canada. The rim must be unserviceable, ie bent to the point where it will no longer hold air. It has covered wheels and tires for customers of mine, but will not cover cosmetic damage like scrapes or curb rash, so if you're going to hit something, you have to hit it hard enough to bend the wheel to the point where it won't hold air. I sell it for $499, for 5-Years of coverage.

I purchased the tirecare coverage for my new R for $1,080 for 5yrs (they told me 5 was the most) and also that while I could add the general warranty later, the wheel coverage had to be done that day only. I think I feel for the bait, and my concern now is that the contract says they will measure the outside, middle, and inside of the tire and if any of these measurements are under 3/32nds, they will deny coverage for not only the tire, but ALSO the rims. So if you crack a rim on a pothole (I'm in Michigan) with 3/32nds, then all good, but apparantly hitting the same pothole with 2/32nds voids your rim claim.

I'm particuarlly concerned that track days will cause uneven wear in that some spots will hit 2/32nds but overall the tires would have a ton of road mileage left on them, with most the tire well above 3/32nds. My old 911turbo wore out the inside rears about 5x as fast as the outside for example.

I think I'm going to see if I can cancel this coverage. I don't want to be forced to pay for new tires before they are really needed which will end up being more expensive guaranteed. I'm also not feeling like $1080 for 5yrs was a relatively good price.

Jayson, thanks for the insight but why would it not cover ‘cosmetic damage’? The opening line states it’s covered. It goes on to define what cosmetic damage is and that the wheel doesn’t need to be rendered unserviceable.
