So about to get new tires for my 22’ Mustang GT. I’ve got the stock 18 inch wheels so can’t really go to much wider tire wise. Does anyone have an opinion on the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. It’s my daily driver and the car is not tracked at all. Just can’t afford bigger wheels and tires at the moment so looking for something decent while I save up. Also thinking about 25mm hub centric wheel spacers just to push them out a touch more. Anyone have opinions on those weather it will affect any other suspension components.

I know a lot of people run spacers but in Pennsylvania the car would not pass annual state inspection with them, you should probably check that out as you are deciding what to do.

Aside from being unsafe I find cars with spacers to look stupid - we can all see the skinny tires pushed farther out, you aren't fooling us.

If you want spacers don't listen to the haters. 1 ton dually trucks all run huge spacers from the factory on the front so the high positive offset wheels will work all the way around. There are billions of miles of those logged without incident.

Just make sure to buy high quality ones that are hubcentric and torque as you are supposed to. I've ran them on factory wheels and high quality aftermarket wheels that didn't quite have the offset I wanted. Currently running them on the front with my PP2 style wheels to the match the offset on the rear. I am very particular about my offsets.

The debate over spacers will go on forever. Would not use them but know many do without incident. That said 25mm is far more than a touch. That’s a whole bunch of offset but that aside will absolutely not work with stock studs. You will need proper extended studs to run a spacer that thick.

I have 20mm on my subaru and have used them before and on Porsche too. It s about a good quality and proper installation . As far as it hurting the suspension , it s the same thing as different offset wheel.

I agree. I have never used them, but on an old 440 Dodge Ramcharger I considered them because the stock wheels/tires sit so far in it looked like it was going to tip over in the turns.

Every time I'd do research I'd talk myself out of it. Like you said, some don't have issues, lots do. When they do, sometimes it's ugly.

Not being a hater at all, as we're all free to do what we want to do.

Save up for wider wheels.

Sucks to spend $800 on new tires and then you're stuck with them for years until they wear out because you don't get shit for them on the used market when you're ready to upgrade.
