So I just went to get my new wheels and tires installed Vossen CV3-R wrapped in Nitro NT555 G2. They come out to tell me their install machine damaged one of my wheels and bring me back to show it. It has 5 little Knicks in it. Somewhat deep but not long. One in each of the spokes. They told me they know a good wheel repair guy who can have it looking good as new. Obviously there wouldn't be any cost of this to me. I believe them as they came highly recommended and seem very upstanding and I appreciate them not trying to hide it. I told them this seemed agreeable as I am not a confontational and it seemed like an honest mistake based on everything they showed me. I might tell them to take the charge for that wheel mounting off the bill also. When I come back for the repair I am also getting an alignment.

My question is: am I being too lenient, should I be tougher?

I have been looking for a local mechanic shop that is trustworthy and these guys seem like a good contender dispite this mishap. I would hate to be an excessive dick and burn a relationship with a good shop over something that honestly seems like not that big deal to me as it's just a cosmetic issue and my car is by no means a show car.

Sounds like they owned up to their mistake and are willing to make it right. I'm not sure what else any rational person could want.

Depends on how minor the damage is, and what the repaired wheel looks like. If it doesn't look as good as new, I'd be demanding a replacement wheel.

I'd also be getting it in writing from the shop that they admit damage to the wheel and are attempting repair. I'd take plenty of photos too.

Why? To cover your back in case they try to worm their way out of accountability if the repaired wheel isn't up to scratch.

I agree, it's a new wheel. I'd give them the choice. If they're sure the repair will be the same as new, I'd be ok with that but let them know if the repair isn't just like new, you'll still need them to replace it with a new one.

I wouldn't fight for taking the original work done off the bill, since that was still done and the wheel will be repaired. I dont see the reason for trying to push it further.

However if the wheel doesnt come back in good shape, then I would ask for a new wheel.

I would say let them try and repair it, if it comes out good your solid if not make sure to speak in advance to them to ensure that it would be replaced in the outcome its not a acceptable fix.

Thanks for all the input! I just was asking because I am quite non-confrontational and just wanted to make sure I wasn't being a push over.

Their wheel repair guy couldn't make it till the next morning at the earliest but I couldn't make that time so I pushed it back to Thursday morning. I mentioned very passively something about taking that wheel off the install bill and they told me that instead they would mount two tires on my factory wheels (which I had mentioned earlier I was planning to use as a winter set) for free if I just had the new tires shipped to them. (FYI the two front tires I had taken off are very low on tread, basically at the marker.) They had already mentioned doing this when they first showed me the damage so they seemed sincere on the promise and in addition to them having it fixed it seemed fair.

Overall it sucks I got a dinged wheel right off the bat but I am happy with the way the shop is handling it and I plan to take my business there again as they everything except body work and seem good at what they do.
