I like side scoops that compliment existing feature lines of a car. Interestingly the pic posted earlier of a '69 Mustang brought back fond memories. There's probably a good reason that style never got off the ground with the S550...and quite possibly the EPA was acutely instrumental in NO factory scoops options.

Here's a thought...Maybe '69 style scoops on the S650 might have made it look a lot less like a Camaro.

Function over style? Or style over function?

As long as the style looks good. Function doesn't need to enter the equation.

If style can only be dictated by function. Then everyone would be driving a car shaped like a tear drop.

If I'm not mistaken, functional side scoops were only available as factory setup on the Shelby's only. For the rest, they were all fake, but could be re-factored to be functional. It would make sense back in the day when disc brakes were mostly exotic thing, so overheating the brakes was a common issue.

I read that those functional scoops were only available one year...when Shelby made them. The article stated that when Shelby production was subsequently handed off to Ford, functionality was one of the first cost saving moves Ford made.

Yeah, how much Ford typical - Price over function. It took them 60 years to get to independent rear suspension because of price.... I've read they've tested IRS on Cobra SVTs and was available for a very limited time. Then Ford considered going IRS in S197, but then calculated that they can save 100$ per car if they keep the solid one, so the S197 came out like that...

I thought Cobras added it in the 90’s and have been that way ever since? I mean, I remember Ford using that as a big selling point when I sold cars back then.
