Hey, just after your inputs with a decision I have.
So I'm currently living in Dubai and will be here for a few more years. I have been waiting (ie pestering weekly) for Ford Middle East to release details of the GT500 and when it will be available here. So today I had a chat with them and they are bringing 7 in which should be ready for delivery in July. They are all base packs with a variety of colors. Now, I have been told they are all painted stripes however I am trying to get confirmation on that, which changes the price expectation a little. They don't sell vinyl stripes from the Ford here, I think it's due to the summer heat/dust. None of the 350's came with stripes for eg. The sale price inc taxes will be equivalent to about 113k usd. I didn't think it would be that high but I guess with only bringing 7 in they are expecting them to be in demand. For reference, I purchased a GT350 new over here and the equivalent price was 70k usd. That was fine as I really wanted a warranty for the 350.
Now they come with a 5 year warranty on powertrain and body if purchased here. If I import one (if I can get my hands on one for a decent price), they will not honor a warranty on the vehicle full stop. So not only am I left out of pocket if things go downhill, resale is also effected due to no warranty or not being sold locally.
So the difference with me purchasing one here for 113k or importing one(importing costs are about 10% of the purchase cost) will be one will have a warranty and potentially higher resale value. And unfortunately over here there aren't too many good workshops when it comes to high quality workmanship.
Importing a gt500 costs depends on the base price I can get, but lets just say current rates about 85k for a 'used one' Plus 10% import fees, so around 95k vs 113k buying a brand new one here.
So is the 5 year warranty plus owning brand new worth 18k? Also noting they may have painted stripes here but Im yet to confirm. I know it's my call but I need guidance.
Or should I just Whipple the 350 and call it a day.
