2016 Track Packs, 2017 MY cars, and R models do have a rear differential cooler that the rear diffuser feeds air to. 2016 base and '16 tech packs don't have the diff cooler.
Any chance of putting up pic's of set up with diffuser on and off to see.

Maybe that gap is there for a reason to allow some air to escape?

Why be that way now:(

Yes I am engineer
You're an engineer? Christ almighty, step it up, you're giving us a bad name lol

No offence, but based on your questions and posts on here, lord help those who you at sent to "help" in th real world

Edit: should also note I'm pulling your leg, not all engineers are mechanically inclined or accustomed to hands on work. As Minn posted, I've noticed this bend in mine as well and will probably take it off and fix it as well!

It's impossible win with you guys. If I asked how do I remove the diffuser, you would respond with "why dont you get under the car and first take a look and then come back with a specific question because we dont want to do your work for you". I go do just that, now you are saying the question was wrong.:(
Don't sweat it, you didn't do anything wrong. If you didn't know you didn't know.

That gap is the result of economics and is not supposed to be there, pure and simple. Ford designed the rear pan to be fastened to the bumper across the rear and provided 8 spots to do it, they just did not spend the $$ to do it. I don't like how flimsy that rear pan is fastened so I decided to install 1/4" extruded nuts and fastened the rear pan with stainless screws in those 8 places. Now I don't need to worry about distortion or anything in the rear being compromised. I'm sure if you look at any of the GT350 professional race cars that they have done the same thing.
Oh yeh . . . you will find when you take the rear pan off it is a great opportunity to reduce some weight if you drive your car often, it will be full of small rocks and pebbles. The last time I cleaned mine there was about 1.5 pounds of gravel in there.

That's a great idea as it looks like this will be a part of regular maintenance and those pushpin affairs probably won't last.

Now that I know that you're an engineer that explains a lot..

I deal with engineers on a weekly basis, they are easy to spot.

They either ask me 20+ questions or "teach" me how to do my job.

You guys just can't help it, it's part of your wiring.

Carry on.

Well, I just found out it isn't necessary to remove the diffuser to clean it out. I blew mine out from the rear with compressed air. I then lay on my side and it was a simple matter to reach in through the side and brush the remaining bits out with my hand. Before I did this my car had an embarassing rattle/buzz that came and went at parking lot speeds in sport exhaust mode. Now it's gone.
