I'm not opposed to them changing the name up to GT550 or GT600. Kind of an evolution of the product, similar to what Nissan did with the Z car.
240Z, 260Z, 280Z, etc, etc.

I know the GT350 and GT500 names have a lot of heritage behind them, but most people who don't know about these cars think it has something to do with the horsepower level.

Either way I hope they come out with an SE a lot earlier then 2016. I'm ready to trade mine in now.
That was a slightly tongue-in-cheek comment (GT550), however if Ford did replace the Trinity 5.8 with a 5.0 in the next incarnation of the GT500, it would be reasonable to assume it have to at least match the 662Hp & Torque - even if the S550 is lighter.

Personally, I hope the 5.8 stays - perhaps with VCT.

Personally, I want to see a 5.5 liter Coyote. It would have a PTWA bore but remain square. A slight increase in stroke would be needed.

I say either supercharged or Ecoboost (Twin Turbo?) 5.5 Liter V8 for the GT500. A big bore and stroke coyote.

A squared motor with twins in the next Cobra would be unbelievably cool.

Yes, as previously indicated, I think a 5.5L Coyote would be an ideal development - an awesome engine, with a big boost in Torque.

The NA 5.0 Coyote @ 420Hp already makes the 5.5 Merc'/AMG with 422Hp look stupid, even though the AMG has DI. Imagine what it would do with a 10% capacity increase ?

A Twin Turbo or S/C version would be mind blowing (well almost)...providing it eclipsed the current 5.8 in Hp & Tq.

That isn't a purely performance engine but rather a modified M157 engine build naturally aspirated. A closer comparison would be the N/A M156 6.2 AMG engine, making from 450hp in the C63 all the way up to 631hp in the SLS Black.
