What should we realistically expect to be revealed on the 17th?

If gasoline prices keep going UP, $4.17 per gal Shell 93 octane here in S/W Florida, your going to see a big power change in the Mustang in the future years, and it is not going to be more HP but less, anyone remember what happened to the muscle cars back in 1973,LONG lines and HIGH prices for gas, and VERY low prices for muscle cars.Face it, the HP wars are just about over,:amen: and the EcoBoost 4 bangers are sad to say going to be the norm.

I read somewhere (probably on FB, and not anything official from Ford, so take it with a BIG grain of salt) that the 50th Anniversary SE would run the existing 420bhp engine with the newer, slightly higher spec engine arriving with the main GT production cars. That ONLY makes sense to me if the 50th Anniv model will be the ONLY model available to buy for the first month or so.
Practically, it doesn't seem to make economic sense to have such an engine arrangement, given the demand forecasting and production planning that needs to go on for what are mutilple-month lead time parts.

Furthermore, after all the photos that have been shown with wheels and grilles, I would lay a bet that there is a "50th anniversary package" that is appearance-only and can go on any of the models (or perhaps the I4 and GT only).

I can't see Ford production strategies carried out this way, especially after seeing how the 2005 and 2010s were introduced, with the 2011s having the major engine changes.

In short, I think on the 17th, as Five Oh Brian and others indicated, we will get the announcement of the 50th anniversary model (again, I think it will just be appearance items mainly), get to see a bunch of the cars at the MCA shows, and then we'll hear more about the exact specifications later. There's still a few months of testing and validation that needs to go on now, given they've just built a second round of prototypes that are close not not exactly production spec.

Knowing Ford, it will probably be something underwhelming. Probably something we've all seen or heard about before. I am not getting my hopes up.
Unless they don't do the engineering that has already been discussed on the 5.0L engine, then it seems logical to conclude that there will be something noticeable in the power department.

I don't think it will be a 500hp GT. I do think the EcoBoost engine will easily be 300+hp and torque and a nice flat curve, based on how the other EcoBoost engines have stacked up in the past 2 years.

I'm fine with them pushing engine specs/weights until maybe June or July. Especially if they are wanting to hold out for as long as they can to keep GM/Camaro in the dark. Not much longer than that though.

I'm not fine with them pushing pricing beyond the May 11th date as I won't order a vehicle until I know pricing and costs of options.

I just get a feeling not much new is going to be revealed on the 17th.

I don't see that happening. Just as Five Oh Brian mentioned, I have seen pricing be available around the time the order guides are released. I've collected order guides and price lists for the 2005 models on when they've showed up on a forum somewhere, and I have found the prices to available then. This also was my own experience when I ordered a 2007 GT. The salesperson had pricing because I went in with an X-plan PIN when I ordered and got those prices printed out for me.

Good. I hope you are correct. :)

I don't think the 50th Anniversary Edition is going to be anything special. From the rumors, it will have a different grille emblem (corral around the pony), different wheels, louvers on the rear quarter windows, and a 50th anniversary badge on the dash. That's about it. Major letdown.

I don't know what you were expecting. Almost Every Anniversary Edition is Nothing More than a Special Paint and Stripe Package with a Special Anniversary Badge somewhere and Usually Limited to less than 5000 units. I think this is actually going to be a very nice package with the Louvered Quarter Windows, Heritage Inspired Wheels and Grill.

You must be one old coot if I'm a young grasshopper. :D:D:D
48. My kids are all grown up and tell me I'm old all the time. I owned my '68 GTO longer than any car I've ever owned. I think I'll be keeping my current Mustang as long, though.

Tell me about it, they + 7-UP made a big deal about the Limited 1990 7-UP 5.0 Mustang...Well, I waited almost a year for mine, only to be bummed, all it ended up being was Makeup on a LX.

I always loved that emerald green on the 7-Up cars! I had just purchased an '89 Mustang 5.0L Sport Hatchback new the year before and was in no position to trade it in for the 7-Up model.

Ford hooked me when they announced the Mach 1 in 2002. I waited 1.5 years to finally get my new Azure Blue '03 Mach 1. They did it again when they announced the Coyote, so I had to have an '11 5.0L GT. Ford has a way of getting all of us to salivate over the next new Mustang!

You've got me by 5 years.

So still an old coot. ;) :D

I'm at 15 years on our '99 Grand Prix GTP ordered/bought new in 1999.

Just a guess but think they will show in car track recording software/video like the 2015 C7 is offering. I have seen pics of interior of car with a track outline shown on the NAV screen. Fingers crossed!

Thanks to Ford (All auto manufacture's), driving around in proto-type cars, all over the USA, so the "Spy's with Camera's" will generate speculation & interest...Combined with well timed "Leaks" (Good Marketing, IMO) they hook us, preventing possible straying to a different Brand. After about a year of build up, they land us, then, it starts over again, with the next mystery must have dream car to end all dream cars.

In the published specs, there isn't a direct reference to having a camera to integrate with the telemetry that is available in the Track Apps, which will be standard on the EcoBoost and GT models. So while you could take readings on track (yes, I saw the photo to which you are referring), I don't think it will function with a video overlay and be saved to storage for download.
