Not really sure why as I don't know the technical details but I've seen people on here talk about the problem because they want to do a cold start the car with exhuast valves open. The only solution is to disable to the switch entirely (rip out cords) or install a secondary device which overrides the stock system (which you could say is a hack).

I forget where I read it but apparently the GT500 saves whatever driving mode you were last in before the car was turned off.
Most common solutions:

For street driving I use normal mode with exhaust valves open. On track I use sport mode if I am unfamiliar with the track and track mode if I've been there before.
Matt, you may not know this but the sport mode is actually a more aggressive throttle response than track. Track is more linear. If you're looking for Traction Control support just use Track and then hit the TC and it will turn it on. I'd recommend track mode 24/7 on track and then just turn the TC on if you're looking for mental comfort.

I don't hear this get talked about often, but you can kind of trick a stock GT350 into doing a cold start with the valves open - briefly.

When you get into the car with the ignition off and put the clutch to the floor, you'll hear the valves cycle open and closed. I believe it does this to check that they're functional and not frozen.

Anyway, the trick is knowing this happens and not letting it happen before you crank the car. Get in and don't touch anything, keep your foot off the clutch and don't touch the ignition. Then put the clutch to the floor and immediately tap the ignition switch the moment your foot hits the floor.

Nine times out of ten, this gets me a BRAP cold start. The valves automatically cycle closed after a moment, but you can then manually open them again.

And of course if this sometimes happens to you and you don't know why, now you know. If you want to be nice to the neighbors, put the clutch to the floor, wait about 3-4 seconds, then start the car.

I wish that the throttle mapping was an independent button just like all the others, and that there were custom modes you could setup and have the car default to one of them.

On my car, the traction control switch does not turn back on in Track. I still have the spin-out light.

On the street:
Sport mode, Suspension put down to normal, Steering put to normal, hold TC until AdvanceTrac turns completely off. I love the mapping of sport mode on the street. Makes heel/toe easier and makes the car more fun to drive around town.

On track:
Track mode, if the track is bumpy I'll put the suspension down to Sport. If it's a smooth track, I keep everything in the Track mode setting. TC stays off but AdvanceTrac stays on unless I'm very familiar with the track and there aren't too many walls to worry about like at Thunderhill/Laguna Seca). At Sonoma Raceway, AdvanceTrac stays on no matter what.

At an Autocross:
Track mode, hold TC until AdvanceTrac turns completely off. If I get the error where it automatically turns back on during a run, I'll pull the plug from under the hood to keep it from coming back on at the event.
