I would say it's a resonator.... or damper for the turbulent air that enters the intake

If it is a resonator (or whatever it's called) for the air intake, my turbo Genesis has something similar. A lot of people removed it to allow for smoother airflow.

It's for sound resonance in the intake tract. Noise emissions. Our 5.0 has one to (a little different though). It has been eliminated.
Did you notice a difference in sound with it removed?

No... lol... when there is ram air, it causes a turbulence... I really would not call it a resonator rather a damper to smooth out the pressure irregularities... just my guess seeing it on the intake side before the air filter
