WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IF ANY BETWEEN A GT350 IN CA VS A NON CA EMISSIONS CAR? I

I"m looking at a CA car, but wanted to know what is actually different? The tune, the headers, cat's and exhaust? Anything significant? Can I just swap out the headers through exhaust to negate any power lost with the CA set up for emissions?

I just went down this rabbit hole when I found out I had to order with Ca emissions. From everything I read… it’s just the stupid stamp that says california emissions. I could not find a single piece of information that would say if any parts are different. Unless someone has an inside scoop I don’t.. it is just another stamp for making things more expensive when you have to replace.

I bought my 19 R new from a Washington state dealer. I moved to CA 2 years later and smoged+registered it without an issue. All stock, no tune. There's no specific cali hardware to my knowledge.

Oftentimes on small volume cars, they are all manufactured to Ca specs

The GT350 is a 50 state legal car. Bought mine in Illinois, brought into CA got it smogged, got my tags and no issues.

not necessarily…

…this was on my 2015 Focus ST3, that I bought from a dealer in Portland.

worked fine in eastern Washington state, but I brought her to California and it was an instant NO-GO.

On the trx they buiit with or without the “california emissions “
It depended on your state of residency.
not sure how many other cars have that but know of that one for sure.

I potentially ran into the same trap when I purchased my new car in Utah and transported it into California. I never saw the original title which said it was cleared for sale in California.

I believe there is a Federal emissions matrix for cars bought in certain states and which states they can be registered in. Luckily, Utah new vehicles can be registered in California, although it did require a smog check on a brand new car.
