How should I go about my asking price? I sent a bunch of emails to 10 of my local Ford dealers and will wait for replies. When I get a quote back should I say "Well, I know what x-plan, dealer invoice, etc... is, can you do any better?" Or do you not mention those at all?

Another question that I just noticed. In the 2016 Order Price thread it has the price w/holdback. Does that mean those prices include the holdback money that Ford gives the dealers, which means I can't use the holdback money as a bargaining tool?

This is my first new vehicle that I will be ordering to MY specs and the plans and holdback info is new to me too. So please bear with my newbie-ness.

Emails work pretty good when you start but sometimes for local dealerships it may be best to go in and get offers as well. Shows you have more interest in buying and they may work with you better. Don't be afraid to walk out. Don't be rude, because most dealerships will contact you to continue negotiations.

In terms of the holdback, dealers get around $1100 holdback with a premium model if I heard correctly. But unless you are interested in going to Koons or another dealership who gives great prices, it will be hard to beat invoice. Some may call your bluff since that dealership is not close if you get a quote from them. But I got an awesome price and was worth the 2 hour drive. Others have flown to Koons due to the savings.

Plus one for Koons. They want to sell more cars than their competitors first and foremost. Their prices are almost always below x-plan and often below invoice.

Find a dealer that is going to give you good service overall. Tell them what YOU want to pay for the car and work it out. There is enough information just on this forum that tells you that you shouldn't be paying more than invoice for the car. If a dealer doesn't want to work with you on pricing, screw em. There have been numerous recommendations for Koons Baltimore on here and a thread that I started when I was looking for my Stang. I didn't use them strictly because they didn't have what I want sitting on the lot and they couldn't find one time. I did like the people there and would give them a shot if I were you. I went with Waldorf Ford for mine and they gave me $800 under invoice and had what I was looking for sitting on the lot.

Thanks, the only difference is that I will be ordering to my specs. So I'm not sure how flexible they will be.

Koons in Baltimore is in a word, GREAT! I ordered a 2016 GT Premium with them today. After negotiating with three dealers in Georgia and two in Florida, I decided it would be worth the price of a one way flight from Georgia to Baltimore (around $330) and also worth the 9 hour drive to secure a good deal. I paid $38,500.00 Out-The-Door for a 2016 GT Premium: Ruby Red, 400-A Equipment Group, ebony leather interior, automatic transmission, 3.55 gears, spoiler delete, 18" Forged Aluminum Wheels, enhanced security package and limited use spare tire. The MSRP of the car on Ford's Website is: $39,930. I know $1430.00 Out-The-Door below MSRP isn't the best deal I have read on the forum but I think I got fair deal and I am happy with it. As Rockstang said, if you haven't tried Koons in Baltimore, give them a call...they will work with you to get you a good deal.

Most important thing is that you are happy with the deal.

Got a black V6 Auto with 050A with Reverse Sensing System and Spare Wheel & Tire included, along with the All-Weather Floor Mats. Oh, and gap coverage which adds to the total.
With all that, it was left at $26,480 but I had a $3000 down payment from insurance money and got an additional $1000 off cause this particular Ford dealership works locally with the Dow plants in the area and if your a current or past employee, they give you a $1000 off for a car purchase. (I don't work for them anymore so that wont happen again, but hey ho.)
So I drove off the lot with $22,480. Pretty good deal I'd say! :D

So I went into one of the local dealers today and put my order in for a 2016.

GT Fastback Premium
Magnetic w/ black stripes
Performance Package
Manual trans
400A
Premier Ebony Trim
Enhanced security
Reverse Park assist

MSRP: $42,050
Invoice: $39,375
D-Plan: $37,898

I shouldn't have to pay sales tax (NH resident, we don't have sales tax), and they said they couldn't apply any incentives because it's a D-plan. Oh well.
Also got a priority 10, which I'm guessing is pretty good.

Yep, I bought from Koons as well! My flight was $240 from Columbia, SC and I drove it home. They do awesome work up there! I saved $5200 off MSRP.
