What were the "rebates"?
$500 is the assumed rebate from Ford. The $2000 is probably from volume rebates or something they get. I was not told what they were honestly. I didn't even know how they got to my price until they wrote it down on paper for me. They did say they got kickbacks from selling cars in volume.

Any tips on how to make an approach like you did to secure similar pricing? Or better yet, what dealership did you use in VA?

I will try to break it down how my dealing process went down from the dealerships I worked with. Sorry if it is a long read and my grammar, paragraph/sentence structure sucks. Not going to list all the dealerships I spoke with, just the one I have ordered through.

I first read on here about Koons and their deals. So I went on to their site and spoke to a salesman. This was before 2016s could be ordered and I was priced out a 2015 (same options I ordered my 2016 with) for $36,015 after TTL etc. Seemed pretty good, but I held off because I wanted a 2016 after hearing the SYNC 3 addition.

Weeks later I contacted the same salesman about pricing a 2016 and he quoted me $37,019 for a 2016 and $36,502 for a 2015 (obviously I am only going for a 2016 now). I questioned the pricing change since 2015s and 2016s pricing remained the same. Said it was the best he could do and couldn't match the 2015 quote a few weeks ago.

I decided to shop around to actually see how good this price was, I went to one dealership who would not quote me a price since ordering was not available yet for 2016s. When that time came they contacted me and I came in and showed them the current price quoted. They gave me a price of $36,694. I showed this to Koons and they beat it with $36,519.

I went to a few other dealerships, some could not come close to the price, but one said they would do $36,599 right then and there (I was on my way to Koons to order my car). I declined since at the time I figured $80 wasn't worth tarnishing my word with Koons that I was on my way to their dealership. Went ahead to Koons and ordered the car and put in my deposit for $500 towards it.

A week or so goes by and the dealership who offered $36,599 calls me and I find out they didn't even assume there would be a $500 rebate (that is how the first dealership who beat Koons got to $36,694 and Koons matched the assumption there would be a $500 rebate or they would eat the $500 if there wasn't). And said with the $500 rebate assumed to be there, their price was $36,099. Well I spoke to my salesman at Koons again and they beat the price and got to by current $35,978 price. Since they had my deposit and didn't want to lose my business they beat the price with me agreeing not to talk to that dealer again. And so far I have not and not answered any calls from them. Koons sales manager wrote the new deal on my order confirmation sheet and signed it. My salesman texted me a picture of the price breakdown with it being signed 30 minutes later.

As I have mentioned before, just use dealerships against one another and you will find out quick which ones deal in volume and which are looking to get most of the money from each sale. I found those and plan to avoid them in the future.

Hope this helps. Keep in mind having written quotes help, I had these to backup my prices from each dealership.

Thank you for the insight and help. I was dead set on a '15 until I learned they are coming out with the black painted top and yellow seat stitching, so I assume I'll be ordering one. Just looking to learn the best approach to getting the best deal.

Easiest way to say it is to just get quotes and see who beats who. Results may vary since not all dealerships/sales managers/salesman are the same. Good luck and don't be afraid to walk out. I walked out of a few dealerships. Also, don't be rude and treat them as best as you can, making them mad won't help

If you aren't afraid to drive a bit, don't limit yourself to local dealerships. If I wasn't willing to drive some, I would not have got the deal I did. Also some salesman I spoke with out of state were willing to order and have it shipped to a dealership local to me. Though they are charged a little for doing so from what I was told.

Good stuff! I'm down to my last dealer, which happens to be Koons i sent them my specs and current offer and dared them to beat it.
