Is anyone else getting a weird rattling noise when they start their EBs? Almost sounds like loose exhaust cover or some other type of metal that's vibrating under the engine. Only does it when starting...

Check your prop rod. I notice that when I pop the hood on mine, it immediately pops loose. I always have to make sure it's secure before I close the hood. Hopefully that's it, if not, get it checked out.

I don't know exactly what you are hearing but cars with direct injection make a touch more noise at startup than others.

You'll hear a ticking from the injectors, not a rattle. Can you estimate which area it's coming from?

As others have said it's direct injected. Injectors and the fuel pump will make more noise than the average port injection motor. Still best to take a video and post up. If it was a loose prop rod or anything else that is loose you would hear it all the time and not just at startup.

2015 ecoboost premium same problem

I have he same problem with my ecoboost premium it seems to be at start up or after I have ran the car pretty good and then go in to park or go to switch gears ( auto trans) and it makes this weird rattle that sounds like loose exhaust for a few minutes and goes away, took it to ford, they don't know what it is yet. Thought they had fixed it yesterday but when I got home it did t again so I'm waiting for a call back this morning to take it back in , if you find out anything please let me know as I will do the same. Also it's louder in the cabin but not so loud on the outside ? The mechanic heard it more than once but can't figure out where it's located just yet ... I'm so frustrated as this is a new vehicle and shouldn't have these issues.

Have your Dealer go under the vehicle and check out the e-brake cable where it's mounted to the driver side of the trans tunnel (very close to resonator). The adjusting nut becomes loose, which will allow some slack in the cable, which will rattle under certain conditions.

It will make a rattle noise against the housing mount or rap against the trans tunnel. It will be sporadic and sometimes you will not be able to replicate - which makes it hard for a Tech to find it as well.

Mine was making a rattle upon startup OR sometimes it would do it when leaving from a stop. It did not do it all the time and if looking around or under the car, nothing looked out of place.

This thread shows the cable and housing:

Hopefully that is what is causing the noise on your vehicle... If not, it's just one of those things you have to try and narrow down as to when it happens (first start, cold outside, hot outside, over bumps, when backing out, when driving, etc)... If you can narrow it to a certain event, that will help the Tech too.

My 2016 5.0 GT PP has been experiencing the exact same rattle symptoms as described by the OP. It has been to the dealer 3 times now with no luck in identifying the source of the rattle. It is very difficult to determine where it is coming from, as it mainly happens on first/cold startup and lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds max. Occasionally I will hear it when leaving from a stop or passing on the highway and am above 3K RPM. It is really annoying, but I doubt it is anything serious. I will have to double check the hood prop rod and the e-brake cable mount as suggested

Thank you

Thanks so much I'll mention it and have them check it out ! Seems to be good advice ! Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem I love my car and this is the only thing wrong with it other than the small rattle from that a/c vent clip right about the head light switch lol but I found that if I aim the vent down it won't rattle lol

I have the same car, exact same timing of it too. Let me know if you discovered the issue.

Thanks

Check the transmission spacer plate too; it’s a known source of rattle in certain RPM ranges across the entire S550 platform, including the Shelbys. There’s also a few threads about it.
