I have a 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, and I been hearing a weird tapping noise coming from under the car. The noise only happens when I’m in gear and tap the gas pedal or push the clutch in. I took it to ford and they said the noise was normal, but I’m for sure it’s not. Can a noise like that come from the throw out bear or the clutch folk?

I don't think that is normal. Possibly and typically throwout bearing, but be warned I do not believe that is a warranty-covered repair . If it isn't, I would take it to a good transmission shop rather than pay dealer prices. I would see what others suggest that may have more transmission expertise.

Yea I feel as tho they didn’t even look in to it because I test drive the car with the mechanic, to point the noise out. Also when I was changing my oil I came across two holes in my transmission case so I know they didn’t look at it. So I might just take it to a transmission place

Any idea how the damage occurred?

How many miles on the car? Still have your driveline warranty which would cover damage to the transmission?

How is the transmission fluid level?

62,000. Tbh I never check, how do I check? it’s not hard to put the car in gear or nothing. It’s just that nose that drives me crazy. I think the car was tracked before I brought it. I got it at 53,000. Also I had to have the diff and axle seal redone because it was leaking.

Warranty is 3 yr/36,000 mi basic, 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain so you are just over. Might be worth a dealer visit just in case they can convince Ford to cover it under warranty, and you can get a full detailing of what exactly needs to be replaced.

I am not an expert on transmissions. I am not able to tell you what that damage is, how serious it is, or if it is related to your issue. It is odd that it coincides with the bolts. I also would think that holes in the side of the transmission would allow debris/dirt to creep in. The black grime is suspicious like fluid came out at some point.

I wouldn't be telling anyone tales of a car being tracked...

Good luck!
