Hello,

I haven't posted in a while. Found a small puddle under the car a few days ago and realized it was coolant. Not oil or any other type of fluid.

The leakage was occasional and not every drive. The drip was not easy to find on the engine as it evaporated quickly. Found the expansion tank level dropping and basically concluded that that the front engine leak was the water pump. This is more common on the front wheel drive 3.7s and lesser on the mustangs.

Found many different sources for a water pump. Amazon had a lot of $70 junk. eBay as well. Decided to go to a reputable supplier and ask about a quality aftermarket pump. The brand Carter was mentioned. Apparently their quality is good. Price was about $140 canadian. Went and bought it and found a three bolt pulley water pump for my car. And a couple of jugs of coolant.

The water pump change over went well. 2 hours and done. No issues at all. Cleaned up all the surfaces and installed the housing fasteners with the proper torque. The belts looked great. I plan to change them at 160,000 km when I change the spark plugs.

I've had many cars that go more than 200, 000kms and no water pump issues. I guess 120,000 km isn't too bad.

Has anybody with the 3.7 also had a recent water pump change out.? Any issues afterwards?

Mich

When I had my 2013 convertible with the 3.7 it seemed to be quite common on the forms I frequented. But it never happened to mine in 60kms.

Any water pump that you don't have to mess with the timing system is a win in my opinion.
I'm dreading when the 3.6 in the Edge goes out, it's internal.
I was happy to find out that my Ecoboost is external!

Agreed...

Even if my water pump did not fail at 120k, i would have replaced it with all belts change out at 160k. I've done the same for other cars. A high mileage belt change out, coolant and pump should be done together. Makes long trips on hot summer days feel more certain.
