Hmm when you look it like that...I may have to give them a call and see if it requires you to have their insurance

The plan is no different than any other protection coverage. Companies bet on the customer never needing it, which a large majority never does. This plan just happens to cover damage done by modification. Now will this cover factory part replacements only or say a Precision Turbo upgrade kit as well if that is damaged?

Just got a quote and it's cheaper than my insurance now with the Mechanical break down insurance...I may be switching.

They explained it as it will cover anything oem on your car even if you have aftermarket parts on your car but it will not pay to fix aftermarket parts that have broken. So you can't put a crate motor in and have them replace it if it blows or you can't have them replace a blown after market turbo. However, If you have an aftermarket turbo and your engine blows they will cover your motor. This is how they explained it to me and they have explained this to other guys according to an EVO thread I looked up.

I just called and asked and they said if the failure was due to a modified vehicle it will not be covered. So the work around for the tune would be taking it to mom and pop and have them give a quote saying it was defective or whatever and then it would be covered correct?

Still don't see why it wouldn't be worth it since you can't get it after 15 months and can keep it for as long as you have the car? So you get it at 15 months, can't use it for 21 more months. So at $40 dollars every 6 months you'll pay $140 dollars into it for nothing, but then you have it post warranty. Seems worth it to me.
I was stating it wouldn't be worth it if you are worried about blowing your engine and ford not covering it. I'm not sure why this isn't being understood. If you blow your engine next week while the car is still under the factory warranty and ford denies the repair because you are tuned and this coverage doesn't take effect until after your factory warranty is up, then you are stuck paying out of pocket for the repair making this not worth it for this instance. I wasn't claiming it wouldn't be worth it 5 years down the road when you are out of warranty and your transmission let's go. For the simple purpose of it covering a repair that ford would not was the purpose. We are getting conflicting terms and conditions on this coverage and appears we need some kind of documentation. I hope this clears it up better.

Seems like a grey area/gamble lol. Definitely not a smart business model to cover modded cars.

I hope you all are reading any "fine print" that comes with such advertised "coverage"...

There's always a catch when it comes to the actual day something goes wrong...and you need to use the policy. Be proactive and read everything pertaining to that coverage, otherwise you're throwing money away AND it may not cover a part or parts that's not listed within their provisions that was never verbally stated.

Does anyone have the actual policy provisions to post up here?

According to their Multi-Risk Physical Damage Coverage documentation which includes comprehensive, collision, and mechanical breakdown protection, a loss due to alteration is not covered. Also, they do not cover modifications that are not specifically listed with them before the loss, and will only cover certain types of alterations. I know this for a fact because of the $30K in modifications to my Jeep that they will only cover about half of.

so correct me if i'm wrong, but you have to buy this within the first 15 months of a NEW car purchase, and effectively it doesn't gain you anything until after the manufacturers warranty expires, since it would've been covered anyway (except that I guess it lets you take it anywhere, not just the ford dealer, which is nice). so after 5 years you've paid into it $1400 (assuming the $24 a month listed above), and are only now benefiting, and you still have to keep paying. still cheaper than some extended warranties. Seems like a gold mine for the insurance company if you keep your car less than 5 years.

*edit*, didnt read close enough, a $24 was not per month, so ignore the math. although I still don't see how the policy can apply to a car while it's under warranty. it's kind of like pre-paying an extended warranty, although if you sell the car or crash it up, or lapse on insurance, you might as well burn the money.

It is not an extended warranty. It is a mechanical breakdown insurance.

I have the same coverage on both my 15 GT and 16 EBM came by default with my Geico full insurance policy. Also includes free towing to the shop where it will be worked on within 100 miles.

For a total increase of 49$ to my 6 month premium, it is worth the peace of mind. If anything could take it to a non ford dealer and i doubt theyd go into the depth the dealership would.

If it is under warranty coverage, you'll need to have an authorized dealership perform the repairs. If Ford is refusing to repair it because of alterations, Geico will probably do the same since they specifically say that loss due to alterations is not covered. Both also deny coverage for racing and stunting. Basically, if you total your car at the track, it's 100% on you if they go by their contract.

If I run into a problem where Ford is refusing to cover it, I'll see if Geico will, but I'm definitely not counting on it. The real reason I have the extra coverage is to extend the coverage to 7 years on some other expensive problems that are only covered for 3 years like air conditioning and electronics. Hopefully I will be able to get drivetrain coverage for 7 years, but I honestly doubt it.
