So call it whatever you want, BAP, boost-a-pump, Vortech calls it the Fuel Pump Booster FPB. Well I haven't even used it yet but the installation was a nightmare, mostly because of the poor mounting design.
I got one with my ESS blower kit and it included the plug-and-play harness. Piece of cake, right? No. First off, there were NO instructions. I searched a lot of info and the best I could find was at around 1 hour of a CJ Pony Parts Vortech supercharger install video, where the last thing they do is install the BAP.
Taking out the back seat is easy. Removing the inside trim panel was a bit of a pain but necessary. But the intent of the mounting bracket is to drill 2 holes into a flat spot in the body behind the trim panel, and hold the bracket in place with 2 screws.
Problem 1: That body steel is hard AF. Wish I had a set of carbide drill bits but I don't. Used a 3/16 high speed steel bit and it smoked and dulled in no time. Had a smaller bit to get a starter hole going and then finished up with the 3/16 bit, which should have been fine based on the size of the two mounting screws.
Problem 2: See problem 1 regarding the body steel. You're not using the crappy Home Depot-grade machine screws and thinking they're going to cut their own threads. The right way to do it would be to tap the two holes before installing the screws. I found a couple hard black screws in the screw jar from some old car project that were about 0.200" at the thread peaks. Well they eventually threaded in but didn't cut any steel, they just mushed the threads so of course one of them stripped. But it's in there kinda solid.
Problem 3: They sent four allen head cap screws with washers and lock nuts to mount the BAP to the bracket. But if you put the screws in from the front there's not enough space for the washer, and if you put them in from the back there's no room for a wrench to hold the lock nut.
The bottom of the seat has hard plastic protrusions so it was hard to get the seat back in place with the giant connectors in there now.
That's all, just had to vent. Sure hope the blower install goes better than that effing BAP did.
