I am very seriously considering the purchase of a Stage 2 kit from VMP (TVS Gen. 2 Supercharger). I expect that with supporting mods (full exhaust), I will put down somewhere in the neighborhood of 580-610 rwhp.

I have a 2015 GT PP w/ a manual transmission.

Does anyone have experience using the VMP kits on a stock motor/transmission (presumably S197 since I haven't seen anyone posting about this application on an S550)?

What are your thoughts on reliability on the stock motor/transmission? I use my car on the wknds only and I do not drag/road race it. I do take the car to WOT frequently, however, when I am out joyriding.

Also, if you have used the kit, did you use VMP's tune or did you have a tuner perform a custom dyno tune on your car? Thoughts on either approach are welcome. A VMP rep I spoke to was supremely confident in the accuracy of the tunes they send with the kit (their tunes are "built" specific to the customer's supporting mods, geographic location, etc.).

I appreciate the help. :ford:

Tyler, shoot me a pm bro. Would like to go over those options with you. We're a VMP dealer and are very familiar with both these and the Roush TVS kits.

VMP is highly regarded in both tuning(especially auto tuning) and their TVS supercharger kits. I had a chance to meet both Justin and Rebacca Starkey(Justin being the owner of VMP) and they are great people.

I had an 11 gt with vmp pulley and tune. Stick exhaust save for gt500 axle backs. Did 585 whp. Love Justin and his work and he will be my go to guy for this car also.

Thanks.

SVTFreak - which stage did you have? Any issues with reliability? How did your factory clutch hold up? How many miles did you put on the setup?

I bought mine before Justin started building his stages. Had a box stock tvs with his 82mm pulley and tune. I started with the roush full kit.

Entire drivetrain held up fine. 33k miles on it with the blower. 38k ok car. Never so much as a hiccup. If so it again tomorrow (maybe will, ain't fully decided yet). My biggest problem was the all season tires where stupid pointless at that power level.

My disclaimer is that I'm not hard on cars. Sure it saw a regular run up through 4th but I don't drive crazy all the time. I'm pretty docile driver. So every light isn't sideways smoke rolling launches.

That's good to hear that you had 33k miles on it with out a problem. I'm thinking about adding s supercharger too, but was curious as to the reliability.

That sounds boring. :headbonk:

Lol. Yeah. I can be. But most of the time I have my 3 year old in the car so I behave.

Funny what age and wisdom does to ya

Do you guys think the mt-82 will hold up at 600hp? FYI I don't plan to launch or power shift, but I do plan the run through the gears with quick shifts (likely on stock tires or mildly aggressive DRs). Are these transmissions any sturdier than the S197s mt-82?

Thoughts?

An mt82 is an mt82. Any improvements won't garner huge changes in torque handling ability. Frankly, I haven't heard of any more cratering than any tranny before or on any car.

That said, see my post above. My 585 whp 11 was a manual.

The biggest danger to the MT-82 would be launching with sticky tires and powershifting/not fully disengaging the clutch. The trans has held more than 700hp just fine, but others have destroyed it with intense racing or improper shifting.

The vmp and roush kits are both great kits for the 5.0's. Just about any power adder will work well.

Don't hesitate to call if you have any questions. We also offer local installation and custom tuning through Lund Racing on our in house dyno.
