Have been using Vdyno along with real dynos for years now. The software when used correctly (just like an in-ground dyno) has repeatable results that are very close to real power. It uses the rate of acceleration of the car, weight, gearing, and frontal surface area to determine power output. That means you have to input these factors correctly and make sure you are logging on a flat straight road without major head or tail winds and no wheelspin.

Hence the difficulty. Who knows what drag effects are messing with the car? Underbody ripped up from a rough winter? That affects acceleration. Got a couple of 40 lb bags of rock salt in the trunk? That affects acceleration (hopefully can take those out now that it's getting warmer...). Tires overinflated? That affects gearing. Road surface uneven? That affects acceleration. Just drank a big gulp? That affects acceleration.

If you're going to log the car and want it to be accurate, none of that stuff is hard to take care of.

Exactly. My figures were within about a +/-10 range on both horsepower and torque.

Sorry to dig this out of the ashes but I'm trying to do this now. I contacted my tuner to see if I can get the throttle position in my datalog (ngauge) so that I can do this. AFAIK that's all I'm missing, as the pop-up window states it's missing time, rpm, and thr. pos. and I can fix the first two.

Well, if you usually go full throttle by 2,500 rpms, then you can add a Throttle Position column and set all of the values to (100).
