After finding out that painted stripes would be 10k, I am now debating ponying up the 10k vs aftermarket paint vs factory vinyl. I have never had vinyl stripes on a car and was wondering what others experience was regarding appearance, longevity, and quality vs painted stripes.

I had a 2011 GT500 with Grabber Blue vinyl stripes and they held up fine for the 4 years that I owned it. Although PPF over vinyl strips is no bueno from what I've heard unless you are not going to do PPF. I'm going to PPF my GT500, so it was painted or nothing for me. You can always add vinyl stripes post purchase too if you do go the PPF so you don't just throw away the money.

I got my 2014 GT500 with vinyl factory stripes and they’ve held up extremely well. No edges coming up and they still look great.

Only caveats: I live in Michigan and the car is kept in the garage, so the sun isn’t quite as strong as other states and the car doesn’t sit outside when not in use (other than when I’m at work or drive it places). I also never drive it in the rain or any winter weather (or when there’s any salt on the roads), which have probably helped keep them looking good as well.

I was originally completely into the painted stripes but at $10k (insanity!) I’m going with vinyl again.

I have had them on two different cars. Nice thing about them is if they get chipped or they fade you peel them off and replace them. If you get tired of them you can peel them off and professionally detail the car and they are gone. Don't like the color combo you chose? Easy peasy just remove and try a different color. I had a vinyl guy do my last car in a metallic aluminum color that absolutely popped. People loved it on the white. Oracal or Oracle is the brand and few vinyl guys are trained to use it. It is heavily used in the marine industry. TONS and TONS of color. Make sure they are legit. The first place I used on my last car ha issues. The vinyl lifted within 2 weeks and they used the wrong cut tape which left a ragged edge. Most vinyl places worth their weight send their people out to 3M, Avery, and Oracal for training and certification to work with respective vinyl. It doesn't all work the same way. Some is dry some is wet applied. Different types of cut tape for different variations of vinyl. It's not one size fits all and/or so simple a child could do it. Its a talent.

10K you say for stripes? HOLY CRAP! Who's doing it Foose himself?

I have them on my 19GT and I had them on my 10GT500. No issues. I think vinyl is the way to go. 10K... ummm... NO.

The 10K stripes will be reproduced by the aftermarket for $500 bucks. And they'll last just as long as anything Ford puts on the car. 10K for stripes is retarded.

These guys do all sorts of vinyl stripes and are being used by quite a few members here:

Just for some context of how well they work, how they look, and at least the aftermarket kits when installed correctly are outstanding (and like someone said, easily removed and/or swapped for a different color/style, etc.)

10K is the PAINTED stripe option. The vinyl stripes are 1k. 10K is more or less a collector's checkbox on the order sheet. I don't believe many will opt for it and it will make the car rare from a numbers perspective. Sure, you could go out to your local body shop and have stripes painted on for a hell of a lot less, but it won't be factory and it won't be in the VIN.

I would have opted for black painted stripes, but not at that price. There is enough black on the car and IMHO, stripes really are not necessary on this car. However, as pointed out, aftermarket stripes by bigworm graphics are a very good option.

Me, personally, I would not run out to my local body shop and have stripes painted on the car. Again, it's all in the VIN, and I think making a permanent alteration to the car will hurt it's value if you ever had to resell it.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I’ll save 9k and go with the vinyl stripes with iconic silver.

By reading many of the posts about how they feel the painted stripes are outlandishly high I now have "RENEWED HOPES" that maybe with a Little Luck from the Big Guy Upstairs that I might be able to actually get my Painted Stripes. I know they are expensive but its something I really would like and don't mind spending the money for. Since I will keep this car atleast 5 years and maybe even longer its worth it to me. Beauty is in the Beholder. You guys are just so great!!!!!!

Speaking of the vinyl stripes, does anyone have pictures of the side stripes? I don't remember seeing any pictures of a 2020 GT500 with them yet. I'm curious if they're like my 2014 with the “GT500” lettering.

They are just like the older ones except the new ones do not say GT500.
