Hey so I purchased the dual 8" flat black race stripes that I wanted get done to the car. Has anyone done the vinyl stripes from american muscle or similar and any photos. I feel like the shadow black with the flat stripes would look good. Also anyone in the Northern NJ area know of a place that would do the install? Thanks.

I installed stripes myself. It took me all day. Color is not everyone's first choice, but my daughters told me I needed stripes. I asked, "what color?" They said, "Blue!" It took me a min to consider it, but I like how it turned out.

If you're not a detailed perfectionist, you'll definitely will want a professional to install. Not only is alignment critical, but the methodology for preventing bubbles is important.

There are little techniques such as centering that can make or break your installation results. For instance, little techniques like starting of with a precise centering tape (3/4" wide for my stripes) gives you a good starting point so that you'll be properly aligned at the front of the hood for instance, as well as the back of the hood.

Pay attention to the instructions to NOT get the release paper wet. I had an inadvertent small water splatter that almost ruined my installation. You are not sent extra stripes to fix such errors.

Border pin stripping, if you plan to install them, will look bad if you get them off by even a 1/16 of an inch. As you can see in the @xl_cheese post, he has a gap between the wide stripes and the border stripes. If you plan this addition, invest in 1/4 inch wide vinyl layout tape (or other desired width). Apply the vinyl layout tape carefully along the 8" stripes, and then carefully apply the pinstripes adjacent to the vinyl layout tape.

Check your decal instructions carefully. Some decals can (or recommend) using wet application. Those types permit a little bit of movement, pulling up and reapplying to achieve perfection. However, as I mentioned earlier, if the instructions state don't get water on the release paper, DON'T get water on the release paper.

Hopefully the above has not scared you off too bad from doing the job yourself. It helps if you have practice material to develop technique, and then from that you can determine if you really want to do the job yourself or hire it out. Professionals make it look easy, but for amateurs, it's not as easy as they make it look.

Best wishes on your endeavor.

We installed the AM stripes on my friends Camaro. He bought 2 sets in case we had an issue which turned out to be a good idea. Definitely lots of measuring and plenty of water. It took 3 of us most of the day but it turned out better than we expected. I went the easier route with the mustang, paid a shop to install some stripes. I got more color options and a warranty.

I have successfully installed dual stripes on my car - all 7 sections except for the hood. The hood has a left/right curvature, and a front/back curvature. So it's slightly spherical. Those two curvatures "fight" the flat back paper and make the outside edges hard to lay flat. A bit of heat gun helps, but I have yet to get a set on perfectly straight on my hood.

So I pay a pro to do my hood stripes. A good price to me is $50 (when I supply the stripes). Last time the guy did it in 20 minutes, perfectly straight, but with a bonus of two tiny specs under the vinyl.
