Don't really see too much of an issue over 1cm.
yeah it's ridiculous, but just be careful as that 1cm makes your car unroadworthy if they catch you

Who the hell makes this shit up? They drunk when they come up with this or what? 'No you may not make your vehicle safer!' Haha

/end rant

So whats the deal? Can you get the setup signed off by an engineer and then you are covered?

Looking into it. I know a few places that can certify modifications that need to be.

Main reason I'm changing stock stuff is because of safety. I don't wanna lose traction and/or kill someone because of shitty tires.

I suppose RTA would prefer us to keep the hazardous tires instead because of 1cm track. Obviously would make a huge difference. (sarcasm)

Yeah I don't fully understand the ruling behind this one. Maybe the extended track width could potentially put more stress on the axle, but clearly people have been running wide wheels & flared arches for ever

I would like to know what you come up with Hybrid, I've never actually had this problem myself but I've done a tonne of research on the subject. It's something not widely understood, and I don't think the US have any rules like this so that's why all their wheel combos poke out so far

Surprised we're allowed to have any car besides a Mazda 2 that's speed restricted to 100kmh to be honest.

This is for NSW owners:

I did a lot of research when sourcing wheels for my R-Spec.

Basically, you can increase wheel width by up to 1" or 25mm above the largest diameter certified by the car manufacturer. This means you need to refer to the tyre placard on the car or in the Owners Manual.

If you change tyres, the increase in overall tyre diameter must not be greater than 7% over the car manufacturers largest tyre certified for the car.

The RTA or RMS have some Vehicle Standards Information guidelines - VSI No.09 and VSI No.6 Revision 3.

These will tell you in more detail regarding tyres, wheels, tracks and so on, for what doesn't require an Engineers Certificate and what does.

For the tracks, any change in offsets must be taken into account with the new wheels. I don't know the offsets of the standard wheels but they are usually stamped on the inside of one of the spokes.

For the Mustang the rear will be 9.5" so you can go up to 10.5" without an Engineers Certificate.

I'm fairly sure this information is still current.

Great info RSPEC-015. I've got the factory specs somewhere.

Listed them for sale on ebay. I'll chase them up and see.

So based on what you've said, 295's at the rear should be fine?

EDIT:

STOCK

FRONT OFFSET +45mm

REAR OFFSET +52.5mm

Now to find the Velgen VMB9 offset's.

EDIT2:

VMB9 Offset's

FRONT OFFSET 35mm

REAR OFFSET 45mm

So... some champion please tell me what this means in English. Are we good to go with the Velgen's or?

^^^ 295's would be OK, just check with the profile to calculate overall tyre diameter.

I'm a bit jet-lagged at the moment but will be looking into tyres and wheels in the next day or so as my car is arriving later this week!

All good man. You've done enough, help wise. I'll do the rest

Good to know everything will be cool.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

275/35R20 Front Diameter 27.6"
295/35R20 Rear Diameter 28.1"

Stock Shitrelli's

255/40R19 Front Diameter 27"
275/40R19 Rear Diameter 27.7"

So... based on the stock configuration, Front increase is 2%~ and rear is like 1.14%~

AND... the offset increase is only 20mm to the front track and 25mm on the dot for the rear. So basically... correct me if I'm wrong, but this means... Winning? :first:

Yep. So we should be able to legally go even higher, if anyone wants it. I'm happy the 275/295 I need are totally legal
