Some idiot(s) last night decided it would be fun to go knocking mirrors of cars, and they got 3 cars at my building, including mine. Police took a report and I've asked my landlord to pull the security footage, so hopefully the video shows something and they can make an arrest.

It looks to me like the mirror is going to need to be replaced, which fordparts lists around $320, well over my $100 deductible. Does anyone have any tips dealing with Geico, especially in asking for OEM parts? There's only one shop that schedules appointments with the adjuster, and I have to wait two weeks to even get an estimate.

If that's the only damage I'd suggest fixing it yourself. It's only an extra $220 and it's better to avoid the hit to your insurance.

Most good insurance will not hit you for non collision incidents. This is comprehensive not collision.

Most good insurance will not hit you for non collision incidents. This is comprehensive not collision.

Many of the big insurance companies do these days. Insurance companies aren't in business to pay out claims no matter how small.

Still for the $225 difference I'd just buy the mirror assembly. Or get a take off one as per above for little extra and pop it on.

I can say for sure when you shop new insurance that your comprehensive claim will show as well. I had a rock chip fixed in my S197 Mustang windshield as its covered for free in Florida under comprehensive, and it showed when changing insurance policies as a claim as Ive had no others in 10 plus years.

In retrospect I would've given Safelite the $60 to fill it and not claimed it.

Or maybe making the parents foot the repair bills and have them dole out the punishment.

Some parents don't even dole out the punishment these days. They talk to them put their loving arms around them and tell them this is a learning experience - don't do it again please. - Seriously if its my son - your grounded for two weeks, gets a stern talking to and I would make him go to your house to personally say he was sorry and HE would pay for all the damages.

Old school would be whipping them with a belt, hand, or whatever object is needed. Kids have no respect these days since spankings are now child abuse :frusty:

I know others have said it shouldn't have an increase but my Progressive premium went up $400 on the year after putting in a claim for acorn damage, and i didnt even decide to get a payout at the time. I kept trying to ask them if this would increase my rates, they all said it shouldnt but wouldnt give a straight answer, they just wanted to pass me onto to someone else who didnt know and then passed me onto someone else etc etc.

I switched insurances, the first time in 5 years progressive was higher than someone else after that sudden jump. Sorry i already pay over 2k a year, and im old enough and have a perfect record, its ridiculous.

Sorry a bit of a rant but consider it.

This^ my claim showed on my new insurance even though there wasnt the payout (i did a payout after since they already dinged me for it.) I wish mine was only a few hundred, but the acorns did over $1500 for me.
