Hi Everyone,

For all you V6 manual transmission owners... if you find your shifts a bit rough and you haven't pulled out that clutch spring yet... do it! I just did this on my S550 V6 and it is 100% better. I thought I was starting to go crazy as the shifts were always inconsistent. It was very easy to remove with the methods mentioned on youtube and in this forum (vice grips, press clutch to floor, compress 2 loops of the spring, and wiggle towards the break petal). Went out for a 2 hour cruise and barely feel a difference with the clutch weight, but shifting and rev matching are perfect! It feels like a proper manual transmission now and you can really feel the clutch engagement points. The weight of the clutch is barely noticeable to me (used to driving a 2006 v6 pony package manual transmission).

By far the best mod you can do, which costs absolutely nothing.

It defies logic why Ford installed these springs. Does not anyone at Ford drive the finished product.?

Personally, after fully depressing the clutch pedal I used a pair of appropriate sized channel locks and grabbed the entire unit and the compressed it.

Are you able to put it back in just as easy as it is to take it out? And does it make it make the clutch harder (needing more pressure to press it)?

I will never know, because it's never going back in. But it can go back in with the proper tool no question.

Does the clutch pedal seem harder to push down ? ..... not in the least.

With the spring in the car it's driveable, but essentially a really rotten shifting experience. It's beyond comprehension how this useless as hell piece got inside there. It's like an evil competitor hacked into Ford Engineering and inserted the spring in the design and no one at Ford realized it or even takes the finished product for a drive. :eyebulge:

I ordered the car blind. None to test drive so I went for it. When I first drove the car out of the Dealer's lot I confessed I had just facked myself royally by rushing the purchase just so I'd have a car by the start of the warm seasons.

What a relief when I pulled it. Super thanks to those that figured it out here on this forum. :clap2:

You can always put it back in if you're careful and don't break the clips... but you will never ever want to. The force is next to nothing of an increase and wouldn't take much to get used to it. Even on the first drive your shifts will be much better though due to the feeling of the clutch, and the linear pressure of the cable will make it more predictable.

^^^^ This is so true. I feel the same way.

The clutch is a little harder to depress though but I like that even better.
