Hachiko was a golden brown Akita that belonged to a college professor in Tokyo in the mid 1920s. Everyday Hachiko would meet the professor at the train station platform when the professor returned from work. One day in 1925, the professor died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. Hachiko continued to come to the platform every day waiting for the professor to come home. Every day until he died in 1935. He became a legend. Locals fed him and gave him treats to sustain him for the almost ten years of loyal duty. Statues were erected in his honor.
