thats...not at all counterintuitive. 1.5x the diameter, since it is an area, you square it, so 2.25x the area. if you go just a little bigger, to 2x the diameter, it is 4x the area, so a 24" pizza would have ALMOST twice as much as the 18", and 4x the 12".

good thing the pizza joints can't do math because they sure do't charge linearly by the in^2. Or said another way, if you buy a personal pan, you're an idiot.

Answer to an age-old question: "If a tree falls in a forest and no one or nothing is around to hear it - does it make a sound?"

Answer: No, it does not make a sound, the falling just creates vibrations. Without an ear or other type of mechanism to convert the vibrations to sound, they are just vibrations.

There are many, many, many more possible number of different combination of chess games than there are atoms in the known universe. There are about 10^120 number of different chess games, which is approximately 10^40 times the number of ATOMS in the known universe (approx. 10^80). That means it would take approximately 10 thousand trillion trillion trillion universes worth of atoms just to reach the number of possible chess games. It's difficult to wrap our minds around the absurdity of that number.

Number of possible chess games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_number

I told my boss I'll take my annual salary to be as many dollar coins as he can stack on the first 2 rows of a chess board with each square a function of 2^n where 'n' is the number of successive tiles. He looked at me for a minute and then threw me out of the room.

"How about pennies, and monthly?" I countered as his boot applied further vigorous forward momentum to my Dairy aire .
