OK, let's start with your build version on 3.0. You have to have at least 20204. This is the CarPlay update. If you have the correct build # move on to settings for both your phone and Sync 3.

Hopefully it is one or both of these things. Good luck.
Huh. This is interesting for sure. This is the first time I have heard of needing a certain build in order to get carplay. I am on 19205 apparently. I will try updating again and see what it does. If it doesn't work, do you know how much ford will charge to do it at the dealer? Thanks for the help so far.

OK, 19205 is a later build (yes the numbers get confusing) that already has CarPly connectivity so that's probably not the issue. Check all of you settings. Also try changing cables. If you have an OEM Apple cable try that.

Edit: Just remembered this old thread. Last posts were in 2020 so the last few pages might be helpful.

I’ll try to explain this where it’s easy to understand lol

Okay, pop in your thumb drive to your Pc and open it..

You'll see your folder of files and two other files. open the autoinstall file using notepad or wordpad.

itll look something like this

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.19205_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BF
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G381-AS
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AS.tar.gz
Item2 = JR3T-14G423-BB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-BB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-AB
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz
Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

add a semicolon to each line except for the file you wanna install. that will look like this.. I added the [SYNCGen3.0_ALL] to separate them.

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.19205_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BF
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = JR3T-14G381-AS
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AS.tar.gz
;Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = JR3T-14G423-BB
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-BB.tar.gz
;Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = GB5T-14G386-AB
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz
;Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

I also changed the layout to separate each install. this is how you want it to look on your first install. also I changed the Item= and Open= to the value of 1. so when ya plug it into the car it goes to that file first..

when you go back for your second round... put the semicolons back and remove the next group of lines..

after each round it'll tell you that install was done and updates will reflect the next time you start the car.

the second round will look like this:

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

;[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.19205_PRODUCT]
;Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
;Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
;Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
;Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
;Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
;Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BF
;Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
;Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G381-AS
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AS.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = JR3T-14G423-BB
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-BB.tar.gz
;Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = GB5T-14G386-AB
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz
;Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

if you can tell where I'm going with this then you will have it updated in no time.

Great! Thanks a lot!

I'm in Colombia, and I've been trying to update my SYNC 3 V1.0 for my Ford Fiesta for a long time without success.
But just I used your method and it updated without any problems. It works perfectly!

Thank you so much. You saved me from having to take it to the dealership!
