Im going to try it myself ive read that the Differential and subframe bushings (Steeda) can clean up things nicely in this regard.

I have those bushings it helps greatly. The rear is quiet, in extreme cases the noise would be very faint.

Would what I'm describing below be the backlash you are talking about?

When traveling slowly (~5mph) and I depress the clutch, I can hear shit banging around underneath. It sounds like backlash, because I can use the gas to sort of "relieve" the drivetrain of the torque right before I engage the clutch and I don't hear anything. Also, I can hear the same thing the exact moment the back tires get over a speed bump while going real slow. Exact same noise. Doesn't happen when the front tires go over, only the back.
Exactly what I'm hearing/feeling from my car. Gave it a year and almost 15,000 miles before having the dealer check/verify that what's going on is "normal". Never drove a manual this "sloppy". At dealer now...we'll see.

Having mine installed now the audible-ness is greatly diminished.

I have a very sloppy drive train. My '11 GT wasn't anything like this. After installing my Steeda bushing inserts gear whine from the rear diff has gotten pretty loud when on the hwy decelerating in gear. I could hear it a tiny bit before but now it's loud.

Wheel hope is gone but now I have gear whine..... :frusty:

BTW, ya'll, changing the oils in the trans and rear didn't reduce noise enough to have made it worth the effort, so..... don't bother unless you actually need a change.

after MGW shifter, new fluid, steeda diff inserts, the thud is more like a quick bonk now.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I was start a new one when i found this.
When im in gear and let go of the gas and accelerate again i hear and feel a thud like there is a little bit of play/slack. Is this normal?

Mine does this too sometimes, but only in 6th. I have no clue if it's normal but I've never had a car do it before.

A small amount of play is normal in a RWD driveline; there needs to be clearance between parts so that they can be assembled and run properly. But it shouldn't be excessive. The distinction between "small amount" and "excessive" is highly subjective, it would seem...
