Turn signal stuck on

I was hopping onto the freeway earlier today and flipped on the left turn signal, but after I merged it wouldn't turn off no matter what I did. I tried the right signal and it kept going with the left. I had to pull over and restart the car twice to get it to stop. Has anyone else had this issue?
