I have a 15 ecoboost premium auto. I have had an intermittent issue with the turbo not working only providing about 3-4 lbs of boost. It has happened twice now. It was like driving a regular 4 cylinder engine. The first time it happened it there was a rattling pipe sound when I tried to accelerate. It sounded like it was in the back of the engine. The second time it happened it sounded less like a rattle but a pipe sound and almost flute like. Both times it went away after I shut the car off and restarted it. Both times as soon as I restarted it I had full boost and the car ran great. Both restarts were immediate too, meaning I shut it off and restarted it and did not let it cool down. I have a Roush CAI and I double checked to make sure all the fittings were tight and everything looks fine. That is my only mod and I always run 93 octane. I had it at the dealer for my recall after the first time. They told me it was hard to troubleshoot because it was it happening there was no codes. They told me to bring it in when it is happening. That is going to be difficult to time right if I get the chance.
Anyone else having this issue or have an idea of what could be?
I read online some people have a similar problem when the internals of the catalytic converter get burned up or break loose they can shift and block the flow. However, if this was the case I don't see how shutting off the car and restarting would immediately fix it.
