Have a 2016 EB and looking to tune my car, however i read thread after thread of ecobooms all stemming from tuned engines so right now trying to get a feel for any really good reliable tunes out there. I maintain the car very well and treat it with care but for some reason hesitant on tuning it because there is no going back. Let me know your thoughts on tunes or even if you think its worth it overall.:ford:

if u have any hesitancy with tuning, just get the Ford performance tune. It comes with a warranty when installed by a ASE shop. Its not the most powerful tune out there, but its miles better than stock and u get the peace of mind

Currently at 37k miles and warranty seems to cover only 36k not the 60k powertrain. Talked to a ford rep and he said it would only not be covered if its the tunes fault however, we both know ford blames tunes for an AC going out lol. So i think its pointless to get the Ford Tune for me.

Engine, driveline and suspension concerns not caused by the use of Ford Performance or mountune parts remain eligible for warranty coverage according to the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty."

I have a FPP tune on my car and have had zero issues with warranty work, including replacing a cat...sooooooooo yea

I may still go the Ford tune just because its safer than the others. However you got a GT! ecoboom is a serious issue :shrug:

Lund here. Considered by some to be the safest route. Many claimed that no Ecoboost blew via Lund.

Every tuner has blown them, including Lund. If someone says otherwise then they're either uneducated about it or lying.

I recommend the Cobb Accessport. It's the best device on the market, in my opinion, and I've used them all at some point. I've been tuned by Adam, Tune+, for 80k+ miles and have no complaints. I tell him what I want the car to do and he makes it happen. :)

At the end of the day you are the one who will be paying for repairs so you need to decide if the risk (6k) is worth the reward (more HP). If this is a daily commuter for work and you don't have 6k to piss away, don't ECU tune the car. Get a drop in filter, a catback and enjoy the car without worrying about paying for a replacement engine for 5/60.

if u dont care about warranty then maybe give livernois a try. Only downside is they dont use the accessport. But their tunes have proven to be pretty safe and strong. Hardly any failures with them at least on the forums.

First thing is what tuning device would you prefer to use. IMO there are only 2 worth a flip for our platform. the NGauge and the Cobb Accessport. Cobb to me has more features to utilize. Both devices you can data log with to be able to send them to your tuner occassionally to make sure everything is good. Lund is the NGauge tuner. For Accessport I would recommend Tune+ and Ryan (PD Tuning). They so far are the top using that device. I personally went with Adam and Tune+. He was the only accessport pro tuner at the time and that was the device I wanted to use. I will say I've not regretted going with him for a single second. Customer service was quick and to the point. The E-tuning process took about a week and a half, and that was mostly due to my scheduling than anything. I've had his tune on my car for about a year and a half and put a good 30k miles on the car. I daily drive it so it sees plenty of miles. It's ran flawlessly. I've even got a transmission tune from him as well. Hope my experience was informative enough. Feel free to ask any questions.

I'd go ford performance/intercooler upgrade. You won't have a track star, but you also wont go broke. I then would concentrate on maybe a full pumpkin 3.55 or 3.73, traction, and handling.

If you want to push it, you can always go with Lund. To me, without upgrading the turbo or gas mix, it might not be worth the risk for the extra second unless you're on a track. Then again, I live in the most congested area in NJ so you might be able to have more opportunity to go crazy. Like others said, it's a gamble. Some say life is too short to care, and others want to live and retire millionaires at 65.

The relevant clause in the warranty statement says:

This Performance Packs and Components Limited Warranty begins upon installation and registration of the part(s) with Ford Performance and remains in effect for the balance of 36 months or 36,000 miles / 60,000 kilometres, whichever occurs first, calculated from the start date of the manufacturer's New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

The part of the clause I emphasized makes clear that warranty claims FoMoCo can attribute to the tune will be covered by Ford Performance up to 36k miles. The question is will FoMoCo cover a warranty claim attributable to the tune AFTER 36k, but before the factory 60k powertrain warranty expires?

I called my local dealer who sells Ford Performance parts and asked this specific question. He said the factory warranty would cover any claims after 36k but before 60k even if the damage is attributable to the tune. I told him I would send an email with the same question so that I could get his answer in writing. I sent three emails, but he never responded to any of them.

It sounds as though you've gotten a definitive answer; engine damage attributable to the tune that occurs after 36K but before 60K will NOT be covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Can you give us more specific information about who exactly you spoke with? Did you correspond via email?

I was chatting with a Ford Performance Rep online and he implied the same thing as they cover to 36k but will not void the 60k powertrain warranty as long as they prove the parts installed did not play a factor into the damage. So in a sense yes they could cover it but in reality I even said this to the Rep, Ive seen ford blame AC failure on a tune so if i blew my engine why would they saw the tune didn't cause that. Its their way of sounding ethical and honoring a warranty on paper but in reality do you think they would warranty a brand new engine and not say the tune affected it? If they really would they would have just implied "does not void any factory warranties when installed properly from ASE mechanic" I wish i took a photo of our conversation it was quite funny because he legally had to respond a certain way but I could tell he knew I was right and its them covering themselves.

This was discussed a lot. Any dealer could deny warranty regardless of anything. Some sleazy outfits can go as far as because of the tires you had on your car. All depends on what dealership, your relationship with them, and how lucky you are.

I remember slamming my Mazda into a curb and the dealer who I bought it from covered it and said "control arms were out of spec". I still had to pay for the tire and rim though.

Another good point is that no tune is safe. More people likely have Adam tuned here than Lund which could also skew the perception of safety.
