Hey guys,
Has anyone had a tremec magn XL installed. If so, what was the price paid for the tremec, and what was the price for the labor?
Thanks
:ford:
That's a tricky Question - a lot depends on if you want top grade stuff all the way. What I mean by that is a stock GT500 shifter will work, but are you planning on going with a MGW? That kind of stuff.
For me I had a lot of items that I could reuse instead of getting new (having my clutch resplined vs buying a new one). Also I had parts I could sell to recoup some of the cost (MGW for MT82, aluminum driveshaft, etc.).
I got everything done for 3k with using the process above.
Without any of that and going premium all the way you are looking at around 6k probably.
I will add this - this is what Ford should have done - it is a beast.
Thanks for the info, 6k is for the install and hardware, if not, how much for install alone. I don't really know what an MGW shifter is, and I need to get a clutch regardless which is why I'm thinking about going straight into tremec. Thanks
Clutch style and driving habits is what kills the MT82. I chose early on that I wanted the Mcleod RXT clutch. It is a ceramic puck style and has no give to it at all. With that , a solid aluminum one piece driveshaft, HD half shafts, drag radial tires and my aggressive driving style , with the no give drivetrain something had to give. The weak link was the MT82...i went through two of them before going to the TR6060. There are options - with a different style of clutch like an organic (RST) or stock driveshaft that has some rubber components in it or non Drag Radial tires the MT82 has good survival success. Changing the fluid and shifter on it make it pretty dang good actually.
MGW is a brand of a shifter, considered by many (like me) as the best. $400-$500. My installer charged me $1000 for the entire swap. Like I said earlier if this is the way you are absolutely going price out your options. There is a post on here that tells you all the parts you will need > http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64210&highlight=TR6060
The shifter is built into the Magnum XL and it blows away any of the aftermarket shifters on other transmissions. Someone who talks about shifters for the XL doesn't know about the Magnum XL.
I bought my XL kit from Walsh Racing they had everything I needed in stock at the time. Installed it myself.
OP fyi...I do not have a Magnum XL. I have a TR6060 (GT500 trans).... is does require a shifter that you have choices on. Mine is a Sage 2 Ben C build. He slowed down on these because the availability of TR6060s aee becoming scarce. Both trans will meet your needs.
