Transporting dogs

Howdy, all.

I bought a 2017 GT several months back, and it replaced a Hyundai Equus (a great car, btw...a large sedan like a Lexus LS460 type). With the Hyundai I had purchased a dog pet type cover that fit over the rear seat and back, and it worked great.

I have two dogs, both around 70 pounds. I knew when I bought it that transporting the dogs would be tougher,but I don't often take them in the car. I figured the tradeoff would be worth it.

I just took the dogs on their first trip, and it was rather the disaster in terms of the interior. One of my dogs leaks a little pee here and there (vet said it's normal for a older spayed female), and she is always the back seat dog. I put a couple trash bags down, then a bunch of folded towels over the seat and back, much like I used to in my previous car before getting the seat cover.

It was pretty terrible..the towels immediately fell down, the seat pockets were so keep compared to the old car's bench seat that with her moving around it was a real pain in the butt and the towels didn't stay in place. The front seat situation wasn't much better, but at least with that I don't have to worry about urine.

I'm mainly concerned with the rear seat situation. I figured someone would have a form fitting rear seat cover, but can't find one. My other option is to just keep trying and get a little better at it, or maybe fold the seats down and have her lay on top of that. Have any of you tried that? What are your solutions when transporting your pups?

If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate them. I don't want it to be such an ordeal if I can avoid it.

You could do a rear seat delete (if you foresee that you will never have human passengers back there, ever).

The rear seat delete eliminates the upper and lower seat cushions with carpeted boards. The lower delete lays pretty much flat as does the upper portion (vertically). Then you can do custom safety tie downs to latch the dogs’ harnesses onto - you don’t want them to be able to roam free back there.
