it has an engine!
The FA20DIT is extremely reliable. I have many Subaru friends, including the one I owned, that has them. The are less prone to oil starvation, bearing failure, ringlands than the EJ. I have a friend who is a certified master Subuaru tech and as far as catastrophic failures, he rarely has had a FA20 come in. I will buy a STi if it comes with a FA next gen. I will never buy one with an EJ anything.
I havent been at subaru for a long time you could be right. I just know what I see and hear with them. I trust an ej255 or 57 far more. seeing 8 of your Subaru buddies all blow up their fa20 within 1.5yrs doesn't instil trust for me.

All the car mags are raving over the new Civic R.....well, except for the looks. At $35K (assuming you can find one at sticker) it appears a bargain.....I just couldn't pull-off driving a car with that grocery cart wing at 54 years old.......

I looked on Autotrader for Civic Type R's available and the pricing ranged from $2K below MSRP to $20K ADM......a LOT of $5 & $10K ADM's listed.....can't imagine anyone paying ADM for a Civic....no matter how fast it might be.

As an ex Subaru master tech im very inclined to disagree on most accounts and with someone that's put basically 500k through four EJ turbo engines in four different chassis. What i can say i agree about is the head gasket issues and I've seen oil leaks from that or faulty valve covers on occasion but usually caused the covers to fail is from lack of pcv service. Valve cover seal is hardly serious. The early Subaru turbo or non and and early 2000s were most definitely head gasket prone. The EJ 257 for whatever reason can blow a head gasket far easier than 205/207. I've also had a few non turbo they also have been solid. It's no Toyota but nothing is except Toyota.

Nissan, I haven't seen a worth while durable product from them since early 2000s.

I would like to note that I'm not saying Subaru don't have issues sometimes. Nothing is perfect and I would agree that I think Subaru has some inconsistencies with engine assembly as far as bearing clearances etc. it's not rampant but it does happen.
You have been lucky. BTW, I am not talking about EJs alone. Only 3 out of my 6 subarus contained an EJ. The older 2.2L and 1.8L engines were riddled with issues. The EJ has had some iffy years as well.

In regards to Nissan, the VQ and SR series engines are basically bullet proof. The SR20 is one of the strongest engines ever made. My friend was pumping 400whp out of his SR20DE for over 100k miles without a singe issue. The problem I have with Nissan today, is that they only make 1 fun affordable car.

The wing isn't the worst part. The worst part is it's still fwd.

My best friend runs an import shop that specializes in German cars but I've never been in there once when they didn't have an EJ pulled.

When I worked at Honda, a lot of our Honda customers would bring them in as well. Which was annoying because the techs would complain constantly if they had to work on them.

I'm trying to think of an engine that I've seen have more issues than that one. The only one coming to mind is the 6.0 powerstroke.

To the OP, go test drive one, if you like it, buy it. Doesn't matter what other people think. I wouldn't be concerned about the FA, and those cars retain their value pretty well so if you don't like it after a year you won't loss your shorts completely.

if you like it go for it.
I had a 16 wrx, i didint care for the car. Maybe as a full track/rally car yes. But for a daily nope. Loud interior, 6 speed with end gear ration around 4.11 so your shifting a lot. Seats sit up high (like your on a stool). The radio sucks beyond belief. Seriously its like a 1990's audio quality from a base car. I sold it with 6k miles on it after about 4 months (sold it for 1k under what i bought it for).

It smashed like all hell in the canyons though, and i loved the look of it, and kinda liked having rear seat room. IMO if you get one, get the STI. That suspension is pretty squishy too, which you might be ok with comming from a mustang.

Interesting that there have been 8 pages of replies but no sign of the OP since the first post.

In my opinion if you have had a car for less than a year and you are already dreaming about another one, you did not think your decision through very well in the first place. I never buy a car unless I am planning on keeping it for many years, horrible investment these cars.

Cars are never an investment. I would swap cars every few months if I could afford it.

i think a yearly upgrade would suffice for me, kinda like smartphones. but we have to settle for 3-5 years with cars to not "lose" as much.

If a car is an appliance to you then sure, keep one for years. They're my hobby so I put my money into them and call it a quality of life investment. Those years I drove that white Nissan truck I was slowly dying inside.

I'm in the navy and have been out at sea for the past month so that's why I haven't been on. I just got back 2 days ago. I appreciate everyone's input. I posted this to hear out some opinions not to make my decision for me, I can do that myself, I jus appreciate everyone's input.
