I’ve got a 2016 Shelby GT350 Tech pack. Car has 51k miles on it, JLT cold air intake, resonator delete and lund tune. Previous owner killed the clutch, so he installed a MCLEOD RXT 1200 clutch so that “he’d never have to worry about it again.” Car is still naturally aspirated, motor is great and doesn’t burn any oil. But the transmission whines and it whines pretty loud. I haven’t tried changing the transmission fluid yet, or taking it to a dealer to see if it’s normal, but this whine is loud enough to be heard with the exhaust valves open.

If the noise you are hearing is louder than your exhaust - that can't be normal, especially coming from the transmission.

Does it get louder with increased RPM's?

Can you hear anything when the car is sitting at idle?

Does the noise change when depressing the clutch pedal?

My question as well is whether noise is there with clutch pressed or not???

My TOB has a strange feel to it, still works well but just feels off. My car only has about 4-5K on it.

It gets higher pitched when increasing rpm, the tone goes away when at idle or if the clutch is pressed in. I’ve noticed it seems to be getting louder. Not sure if it’s TOB

It goes away when the clutch is pushed in. Sounds just like a whine of a supercharger, but not quite that loud

How about if you just apply pressure to TOB not fully depress clutch?

If noise goes away while driving with pressure on TOB, it could be the TOB.

Else it could be a tranny issue.
I would confirm fluid is up to proper level, these trannies are pretty darn good.

TOB and clutch??? Those items a bit more suspect but still good.

I would at a minimum drain and refill the transmission fluid. Look for metal debris in it. Although if the clutch was changed recently they may have changed fluid at the same time.

I changed it. Still whines now. Fluid was brownish in color.

If it were me I would do a rebuild at minimum. Might be a good time to swap out to the track pack transmission and add the track pack coolers.

First off did it make noise prior to the clutch change.

If this only happened post clutch change, I would start there.

Fluid is “brown”???
Was it replaced by who?
When you replaced it, what did you use?

Not sure but I would first see if that’s correct. All tremecs I have ever had used ATF, which is red.
Mine calls for Mercon which is red.

If the person who did clutch put wrong fluid back in, you’ve got a real problem. Don’t even try to drive until you fully flush and replace fluid. It could have already caused damage that will lead to failure.
Gear lube which is what older manuals used is gear lube and brown to black. If that is what you have, you’ve got problems.

Previous owner replaced the clutch. No clue where he took it as it was in Texas and I live in Ohio. I didn’t notice the whine beforehand but I could’ve just not been listening to it. I just replaced it with Mercon LV ATF. Still whines.

Check with previous owner if you can.

Is power train still still covered?

Bring it to Ford.

Sadly it’s not covered. Has a tune from lund by precious owner. I’ll have to see how much Ford will charge
